Lisa Rowe Glickoff's more than 20-year career is just as diverse as the pictures of fantasy, special effects, and beauty makeup in her portfolio. When she is not busy prepping faces for fashion, film, and high-profile events? such as dolling up celebs for the 2006 Academy Awards? the makeup-industry veteran spends time on the product side of the industry. In addition to serving as a beauty rep for brands such as Paula Dorf Cosmetics, she also has created Astute, her own line of makeup. But even with all of these accomplishments, the one that?s closest to her heart remains the founding of Astute Artistry, her makeup-training boutique and beauty studio. From within the 8,000 square foot space?decorated with modern Paris-themed decor?she teaches aspiring make-up artists how to create Hollywood-approved special effects and beauty makeup during hands-on classes that range from beginner level to advanced professional.
When not teaching others the tricks of the beauty trade, Lisa puts her aesthetician license and chic boutique to use by shaping brows with threading, enhancing eyes with lash extensions, and rejuvenating mature, teen, and dehydrated skin during facials. Lisa and her team also provide traditional makeup applications for brides and those attending special events.
Lisa is also committed to helping those in need, which is why she founded Astute Artistry II, a nonprofit makeup studio catering to women affected by skin and hair conditions, which was featured in Hour Detroit magazine.
Laser aesthetics might seem like a recent phenomenon, but PHR Centers' staff members have been using lasers to address clients' cosmetic needs since 1981. This gives them experience far beyond what you might expect in their industry. Dr. Amy DeRosa?a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon?oversees the centers' teams of registered nurses, licensed aestheticians, and laser technicians, who work together to treat a wide range of concerns by using the latest equipment and techniques.
By focusing on nonsurgical solutions to common aesthetic issues, PHR Centers can grant clients dramatic effects without the downtime of plastic surgery or the risks of time travel. The experts call on the Palomar Vectus cosmetic laser system to eradicate unwanted hair while cooling the skin for a more comfortable experience, and use Vaser Lipolysis, SmartLipo, and radio-frequency-based Vanquish treatments to contour clients' bodies by targeting stubborn fat deposits. To achieve a more youthful appearance, Deka SmartXide DOT therapy helps improve skin tone and texture by stimulating collagen production, and Botox, dermal fillers, and chemical peels work to soften wrinkles and rejuvenate the complexion.
At Beyond Nails, owner Sandi Tomlinson leans on her 27 years of beautifying experience to lead a duo of technicians versed in nail art and skincare. The range of beauty-enhancing services includes facials, bikini waxes, and manicures with OPI Colorgel or CND Shellac polish that lasts up to two weeks, or the time it takes a tadpole to grow into his older brother?s jeans. Emery boards rasp gently, and tenor sighs drift from heated massage chairs in Beyond Nails' new, larger location.
At Holistic Harmony, holistic healthcare practitioner Michelle Marie Phaup works to help her clients bolster their physical health and access inner peace. One of her signature services is the Aqua-Chi ionic footbath?a detoxifying service that has helped Michelle Marie herself alleviate the symptoms of a chronic fatigue syndrome. She also applies her more than 20 years of therapeutic experience to offer other holistic services, including chakra balancing, foot and hand reflexology, and Indian head massage.
Light pours forth from Absolute Tan, where UV rays bronze skin and infrared beams promote a relaxed, lithe physique. Having filled their airbrushes with Norvell bronzer, tan technicians coat limbs in an even, bronze hue that dries quickly without streaks. Lotions from Designer Skin, Ed Hardy, and the organic Badger Balm line nourish the skin while speeding the tanning process by increasing skin’s moisture.
