Drawing on a knack for clear, concise communication, the Los Angeles-based writers at CareerPlex showcase the talents, values, and achievements of job-hunters of all levels in professional résumés and cover letters, giving customers an edge with extra career services. After discussing their needs with a representative, clients upload existing résumés to CareerPlex’s website. The writing process, which lasts 24–72 hours, begins with a 20- to 50-minute interview in person, over the phone, or via astral projection. Writers’ simple questions reveal clients’ aspirations, experience, and achievements, such as the ability to climb a corporate ladder blindfolded. Clients review first drafts of their documents in PDF format before a 20- to 50-minute follow-up consultation, in which writers make revisions and set a delivery date for finished products. Throughout the process, clients can contact career advisors for advice and receive a response within 45–60 minutes.

Typing away in their Culver City loft, the writers and copyeditors at Creative Confusion give words to a range of commercial advertising projects. Modeled after a classic advertising agency, the team has crafted ad copy for brands such as Levi's, Modcloth, and Forever 21. They've also spearheaded creative development for companies with services ranging from SEO-friendly product descriptions and social-media maintenance to general business copy. Each writer is matched to a project by specialty and works with individual clients to achieve the brand's ideal tone and voice.
These writers can also compose more personal projects. They may wax poetic in playful confessions, birthday dedications, and wedding vows, or execute creative résumés and cover letters. Drawing from a client's sensibilities or submitted personal statements, they also tailor unique letters on themes such as No Reason But I Love You and The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over the Lazy Dog. The writers also copyedit and ghostwrite pieces for other writers upon request. Regardless of the assignment, Creative Confusion guarantees that their work passes Copyscape's regulations for written content.

Carrie Rezabek Dorr founded Pure Barre in 2001, and it has since grown its low-impact, high-intensity, ballet-inspired workouts to locations across the country. Certified Pilates instructor Carrie Bristol—who has an MA in French language and culture—operates the Ann Arbor location. Here, she welcomes students to a total-body workout that blends isometric exercise with therapeutic stretching to burn fat and build lean muscle mass. Although a soundtrack of upbeat music lends rhythm to each session, the absence of jumping, bouncing, and jack-hammering prevents damage to joints. The only equipment is a ballet barre used for stability and the meditative focus that turns a single hour into a boon for the body's health.
