Michael Dawson's resume looks a little different than that of the average winemaker. He earned degrees in biochemistry and cell biology, and went on to complete his medical degree and work in radiology. But as any grape-expert will tell you, viticulture is a scientific process?and Michael has proven himself more than up for the task. He draws on his technological background while bottling chardonnay, pinot noir, white rhone varietals, and other boutique wines for Seal Beach Winery. Those unique quaffs are available to sample in the tasting room, which also stocks bottles ready for visitors to take home and politely refuse to share. Those who aren't sure which bottle to select can opt to join the Wine Club in which Seal Beach Winery does the choosing for you. Customers can also take home merchandise such as wine-themed gift baskets, aerators, and tasting trays.

It's been posited that it takes approximately 10,000 hours of practice for a person to become really good at something. Pho So 9's chef has crafted the same delicious pho for more than 40 years, making him arguably a soup and noodle genius. His dark, rich broth simmers with rice noodles and chunks of rare steak, a complement to his lighter, seafood-rich stir-fries, all made with authentic ingredients. In the dining room, wait staff pour creamy Thai iced teas and coffees, surrounded by contemporary, Asian-inspired decor that gives the space a casual elegance.

At Tava Grill and Lounge, owner and chef Punita Patel infuses her seasonal menu with Indian flavors and fresh, local ingredients. The paneer fajita tacos, for instance, ooze authenticity along with housemade cilantro mint chutney that can double as smelling salts for a food-comatose date. The seafood biryani paella evokes both India and Spain with a blend of shrimp, mussels, squid, and crab in a creamy curry sauce.

A separate menu in the lounge marries the food of India and California, as the atmosphere fuses nightclub and fine-dining establishment. Beside a softly lit bar, benches and ottomans are scattered around low tables, which break up regular tables and booths without the staff having to dig trenches around each.

When it comes to watching sports, there's no bad seat at Grandstand Grill. With 20 HDTVs scattered around the space and a ban on oversize hats, every diner has an unimpeded view of the on-screen action. As fans gather to watch pro, college, and high school teams score, they can nosh on menu selections such as pasta with house-made marinara, burgers, and breakfast served all day long.

Dim lighting flickers off cobblestone walls as guests at On the Rocks Bar & Grill socialize over steaks and burgers or gape at 20 TVs broadcasting sports. Plates of hand-formed burgers and slow-cooked ribs occupy tabletops in the dining room, whereas patrons sip drinks and enjoy nightly specials out on the patio. The eatery’s late-night menu keeps guests satiated well into the night with chicken tenderloins and fried strips of the moon.

Pints Sports Bar and Grill's libations and classic American eats go perfectly with its squad of LED televisions, which air current sporting events, including football games and the local squirrels' logrolling competitions. Bartenders manage a seasonal cocktail list and rotating selection of draft beers from craft breweries as Stone Brewing Co., Avery Brewing Company, and Oskar Blues Brewery. These drinks complement chef Craig Orell?s creations, which include made-from-scratch pretzels, ahi poke, and braised short ribs.
