In 2008, four sisters started Bambu Desserts & Drinks as a hobby. Today, the San Jose–born brand has established a major presence in the Bay Area, and has expanded to other states including Hawaii, Nevada, and Texas. Bambu’s success can be traced to the quality of its treats, as well as its variety: the menu is packed with about 100 Asian-inspired desserts and beverages. Tapioca balls float in their milk teas, which range in flavor from lychee to coconut to jasmine, and their dessert drinks combine such intriguing ingredients as coconut, pandan jelly, longan, basil seed—which form the Bambu special. Various hot and cold coffee drinks, such as Vietnamese coffee, café mochas, and lattes, put a spring in guests' step—more convenient than filling your shoes with jumping beans. The staffers also concoct blended coffees and smoothies, which come in flavors including strawberry, coconut, papaya, and avocado.
Run by husband-and-wife duo Hien and Amber, the Doughnut Deli serves up an array of fresh, artisan donuts and long johns. Flavors run the gamut from s’more to bacon maple, topped with a syrup frosting, sliced bacon strips, and bits of a lumberjack’s spare flannel. You can also build your own donut and top it with candies or cereals including M&Ms, pretzels, caramel popcorn, and Cocoa Pebbles.
Every Friday, from 9 p.m. to midnight, stop by for a hot blueberry donut; make it a la mode with a scoop of french vanilla ice cream. In addition to its signature treat, the deli also offers fresh sandwiches, croissants, sodas, coffee, and juices. With advanced notice, Doughnut Deli is happy to work with custom orders or special requests.

Michael Dawson's resume looks a little different than that of the average winemaker. He earned degrees in biochemistry and cell biology, and went on to complete his medical degree and work in radiology. But as any grape-expert will tell you, viticulture is a scientific process—and Michael has proven himself more than up for the task. He draws on his technological background while bottling chardonnay, pinot noir, white rhone varietals, and other boutique wines for Seal Beach Winery. Those unique quaffs are available to sample in the tasting room, which also stocks bottles ready for visitors to take home and politely refuse to share. Those who aren't sure which bottle to select can opt to join the Wine Club in which Seal Beach Winery does the choosing for you. Customers can also take home merchandise such as wine-themed gift baskets, aerators, and tasting trays.
Many of the dishes served at Rick and Brian's Cafe have been taking up menu real estate since the diner opened 30 years ago. This comfort food puts customers at ease, as does some of their veteran staff who have been around since the diner's opening, offering a comforting continuity for guests stopping in for their daily coffee, chicken-fried steak, and slow-cooked pot roast. Like any good diner or restaurant without a clock, the cafe serves breakfast all day long alongside BLTs, burgers, meatloaf, and cobb salads. Staff members also bake up retro desserts such as pineapple upside down cake, orange liqueur cheesecake made with Grand Marnier, and bundt cakes with vodka and Kahlua baked inside.
