Photographer Austin Cochran has fixed his camera eye on celebrities the likes of Moby and Rob Zombie, and has done shots for Black Star Beer and Morgan Bacall Clothing. While he takes immense satisfaction from that work, the inclusion of pet portraits is what really rounds out his business, Whiskers and Beaks Pet Photography. Getting families and their pets together makes for uniquely photographable moments in which Austin fosters an energetic and laid-back atmosphere, allowing for comfortable, natural interactions. He also shoots standard portraits, headshots, and engagement sessions, whether there’s a four-legged friend there to steal the show or not.
Huntington Photo Workshops instructor Tim Mathiesen has collected four decades' worth of panoramic landscapes on trips across the United States, Europe, and Asia. His partner in image stalking, Paul Thompson, has filled the 35 years of his career with countless faces of families and newlyweds. In detailed workshops, the two tackle topics such as sports photography, posing, and harnessing natural light, and aim to get all students comfortable with their own digital camera and inimitable eye.
A gallery of masterpieces showcases stunningly virtuosic renderings—which are especially impressive considering they were created by kids. While fostering a friendly, cheerful atmosphere, instructors teach classical art skills to classes of up to 12 students at a time. During weekly classes, the skilled instructors demonstrate how to realistically illustrate animals, figures, and still-life scenes using traditional media. "Creativity follows mastery" is the KidsArt philosophy, so they designed the sort of program they imagine the old masters would have approved. Planting graphite sticks and paintbrushes in pupils' hands, instructors teach color mixing, show students how to break an image into its component parts, and instill necessary behaviors such as focus and patience. Programs include individualized drawing and painting lessons and special-topic workshops, such as clay sculpture, figure drawing, and Anime/cartooning.
Neil Kremer and Cory Johnson are explorers. One can often find them hiking a mountain or cruising down the freeways of Southern California. However, much of their exploration takes place standing still, their eyes focused through a camera lens. Through Kremer Johnson Photography, Mr. Kremer and Mr. Johnson use photographs to tell the stories of athletes, musicians, and other clients. That might mean capturing a swimmer in the pool or a guitar player in the middle of a favorite song. Kremer Johnson Photography has also worked with well-known corporate clients, such as Boeing and CNN.
Orange County visual artist Don Le has a passion for expressing his subjects' inner beauty and personality. In his career in photography and video production, Le's portfolio spans across a wide range of styles, from wedding compositions to celebrity and fashion photoshoots to family portraits. Le's pieces often splash with a dreamy saturation of color, and he can upgrade a shot with his playful, inventive use of lighting, computer-generated backgrounds, and various angles. During three-hour photography courses, Le teaches students how to visualize and create photo compositions of their very own. Those courses include pointers in both outdoor and indoor photography, so you can properly capture Bigfoot in either the woods or a department store.
