Destination Backcountry Adventures’ licensed guides help civilians explore the wilderness, providing remedies to nature deficit disorder with beginner-appropriate expeditions into the Catskill and Adirondack Mountain preserves. The guides lead adventurers through landscapes and waterfalls legally protected for more than a century, and along the way, they enlighten hikers with facts about the area’s natural history and ecology, and in some cases, the opportunity to pick wild berries. Tours are dog-friendly. All levels of nature enthusiasts from novice to expert, can challenge themselves with activity options such as hiking, backpacking, back country yoga, and many more activities for both single- and multi-day adventures in the authentic, challenging wilderness. Visitors can opt for single-day excursions, on which they summit a Catskills peak, or multi-night trips, during which they trek to higher peaks and spend the nights sleeping amid a tranquil forest. On all outings, hikers nosh on gourmet fare such as cheese and sausage plates and upscale trail mix, rather than the original trail mix, assorted gravel. The center also hosts in-store classes, workshops, and more to provide its future adventurers with all the tools necessary for an exciting expedition.

Voted one of the state's best museums by New Jersey Monthly readers, Paranormal Books and Curiosities tingles spines with creepy exhibits and spooky, 90-minute tours along the Jersey shore. Fright enthusiasts feel the icy touch of phantom fingers during a lantern-lit walk through the ghost-ridden streets of downtown Asbury Park. Tourists can also take a moonlit stroll along the boardwalk while absorbing the haunting tales of a doomed luxury liner and a mysteriously flammable theater, or head into Smithville's historic Village Greene for a chance encounter with the Pine Barrens’ shadow-stepping Jersey Devil and his terrifying harmonica solos.

Manasquan Water Taxi is a 40-foot riverboat. The wide, low-riding vessel has an open-air deck shaded by a canopy, and colored light from neon signs casts a glow on the water’s ripples. The water taxi cruises at up to 25 miles per hour, ferrying riders between bars and restaurants, to islands, beneath fireworks, and over any wimpier boats in its way. A sound system turns the boat into a floating boom box, and riders can drink at the full bar onboard and nibble hot dogs and subs.

Established in 1998, Cornucopia Cruise Line's three ships transport guests along the New York City harbor or the inland waterways along the New Jersey and Staten Island shorelines. Each ship is appointed with uplit ceilings, brass railings, hardwood dance floors, and glittering lights. During evening cruises, wait staff serve a sit-down dinner of surf-and-turf entrees as the DJ's tunes coax diners onto the dance floor. Excursions on Saturday and Sunday sate guests with buffet-style lunch or brunch, respectively. The ships range in size from the Cornucopia Majesty's vast 1,200-person capacity to the Cornucopia Destiny's intimate 250-person quarters, where guests should wear business-casual attire, eschewing gym shoes on their feet and flip-flops on their hands.:m]]

Featured by ABC News and Time Out New York, POGO Events hosts exciting scavenger hunts and races that introduce teams to the popular and hidden jewels of New York, DC, San Francisco, and Florida. Their signature Amazing New York Scavenger Hunt sends teams sprinting through city streets, leading them to destinations with clues that require them to solve puzzles, complete tasks, or photograph certain objects. While every race is different, challenges might include taking a picture with a hot-dog vendor, playing Dance Dance Revolution, or telling a dog his pants are too tight without offending him.

In addition to their preplanned adventures, the race-masters at POGO Events can help customers design their own expedition through customized tours or build-it-yourself races. The POGO team also organizes standalone social events such as trivia nights and adult summer camps.

Tea-light flames flickering through red glass holders gently illuminate the exposed-brick walls, ochre curtains, and plates full of contemporary American cuisine fashioned with a Mediterranean twist at Red Oak Restaurant. Servers flit about the dimly lit setting or covered patio, which sits under a red canopy surrounded by greenery and wood latticework. At tables they stop to present tapas-style hot and cold plates, which balance grilled shrimp, crisp calamari, or classic Mediterranean hummus and falafel. Chefs in the kitchen prepare substantial entrees, including kebabs threaded with lamb or kofta, as well as lamb chops fresh from the grill. Also in the kitchen, fragrant stews known as tajines simmer oxtail or beef with herbs and spices. As a post-meal treat, brass-trimmed hookahs send thanks to the chef via aromatic smoke signals.
