CrossFit at its core is all about getting bodies in peak physical shape, but because the famed workouts can be intense, folks need someone to help them get to that goal safely. At CrossFit Cielo, the staff aims to do just that. Working closely with clients to make sure they push their bodies in a safe and effective way, workouts change daily to challenge different parts of the body and help build muscle while toning and slimming the physique.

Water is a powerful compound. It can carve deep canyons, power hydroelectric plants, or even give people superhuman abilities. The latter feat is accomplished aboard Rocky Mountain Flyboard Colorado's water-propulsion flying machines. Nozzles strapped to hands and feet lift pilots up to 40 feet in the air, let them dive into the water, or allow them to perform advanced tricks such as back flips.

When participants at The Retro Run 5K take their marks, they're more likely to be taken for Cyndi Lauper than a marathon runner. That's because the 3-mile run eschews the put-ons of most modern races: there are no times collected, and those with the best '60s, '70s, or '80s costumes are the ones destined to win the big prize—in the post-race costume competition, anyway. Neon spandex, fanny packs, and fingerless gloves are a hot choice among racers, but even if you're just there in a T-shirt and shorts, the staff will hook you up with a free pair of sunglasses to help you look the part. After the race, runners, walkers, and even pets celebrate with an '80s-themed festival complete with top party music, a costume contest, and pyramid teams reenacting the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Inside the NoCo Ice Center arena, blades carve gracefully across the frozen expanse during spirited meetings ranging from Learn to Skate classes to adult hockey leagues. Casual skaters can show up any day of the week to rent skates and glide blissfully during open-skate sessions, or to learn how to manipulate the direction of a sliding stone during curling classes. When hockey players aren’t participating in league games or stare downs with the resident Zamboni driver, they can also stop by the arena for casual play during adult, youth, and father-son drop-in hockey times.

Certified personal trainer Julie Tubbesing is a one-woman gym. She transports weights, kettlebells, resistance bands, and even music to her clients' homes, planning customized and private workouts in the comfort of their yard or living area. These sessions rely on a mix of fast-paced cardio intervals and functional strength exercises. However, Julie adjusts the program depending on each person's goals, and has coached her pupils toward toned muscles as well as dramatic fat loss—some of her past clients have shed more than 50 pounds. For those who would prefer a different setting, she also hosts appointments in a fully equipped studio.
