During construction of all its new studios, CorePower Yoga strives to use recycled content, install eco-friendly and efficient mechanical systems, and ensure that any waste created doesn't end up in landfills or just piled in Mr. Henderson's garage.
With a schedule of classes including Sunny Side Up and Not-So-Rushed-Hour, The Yoga Mat cultivates a welcoming, playful environment for yogis of all levels. Seasoned instructors link breath and movement in Vinyasa classes and focus on alignment and anatomy in classes influenced by Iyengar. Classes begin as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 7 p.m. on weekdays. On Saturday afternoons, the studio's Made You a Mix-Tape class combines yoga with the energetic sounds of Arcade Fire, Michael Jackson, and golden retrievers.
Root Yoga Center's owners created their studio to give clients a space to explore their metaphorical roots by examining their physical, spiritual, and emotional bodies through yoga practice. Every teacher at Root Yoga Center is an experienced yogi and puts the school's philosophy into practice during regular classes or supplemental practices such as qi gong, physical therapy, and nutritional counseling. Great minds think alike, and this was definitely true for Kyle Baxter—a professional tree climber—and Bridget Baxter—an accomplished high-school and college cross-country and track runner. Each certified instructor owned or worked at a local Bikram studio, but it wasn’t until they met at a Bikram yoga convention in 2006 that they discovered each other. Now the married couple oversees two Bikram yoga locations, which offer classes for students of any level seven days a week. Each studio is kept at a toasty 105 degrees, and sessions are led by a certified Bikram instructor who guides patrons through muscle-building and stretching poses that promote healthy, lean bodies. A large towel, yoga mat, and water bottle are recommended for each class, so the studios offer rental towels and mats for those whose dog ate their yoga mat along with their homework.
After losing a family member in 2003, Terri Mairley, Udaya Yoga's owner, turned to the art of yoga. She soon discovered a new life purpose. Seeing first-hand both the physical and emotional benefits that yoga could bring to one's life, Terri decided to open up her own studio in 2007. Since then, Udaya Yoga's schedule has grown to include more than 20 weekly sessions. Classes such as Udaya Flow, which focuses on the connection between movement and breathing, are accessible for beginning yogis. In contrast, Power Yoga involves more challenging sequences that are best suited for Gumby and also students with foundational skills.
