First-time campers kick off with a comprehensive, one-on-one consultation with a certified fitness consultant. Then, during each session, boot-bodies can expect varied total-body workouts heightened by exercise formats such as resistance training, jump roping, kickboxing, Pilates, partner drills, short-distance running, and encyclopedia ripping-in-half. At the end of four weeks, goals are assessed and firm, silent, head nods of confidence are exchanged. Long Beach Boot Camp requires that all campers bring the following equipment to each session: exercise mat, set of hand weights, resistance band, and water bottle.
It's a widely repeated maxim in the CrossFit community that the fitness needs of Olympic athletes and senior citizens differ by degree, not kind. In other words, though an elderly person may not be able to lift as much, run as far, or jump as high as a world-class athlete, he or she should still be performing the same exercises, just scaled accordingly. CrossFit Los Alamitos commits itself to this core tenet of the sport and invites exercisers into its gym even if they're limited in experience or have only used a punching bag for hugging practice. The exercises these patrons perform on a given day could be weight-, endurance-, or agility-oriented, with adjustments to load and duration made for every individual. Ultimately, the coaches ask only that their charges perform the varied exercises at maximum intensity in order to reap maximum benefits such as increased strength, flexibility, and endurance.
The origin of Team Appleby Fitness is a tale of two Applebys. Steve Appleby grew up in Southern California, and led a very active lifestyle until the age of 17, when he lost his leg in a motorcycle accident. Determined, Steve rehabilitated and transformed himself, eventually making a career out of helping others do the same.
Tanya Appleby, meanwhile, hails from Northern California. For awhile, she led an inactive, unhealthy lifestyle. Then she met Steve in 2000. Inspired by his story, she, too, underwent a transformation, eventually dedicating herself to helping others just as Steve had years before. Today, Steve and Tanya both boast multiple certifications, including personal training. They combine their decades of experience to offer a variety of training programs, assisting clients in weight loss, muscle training, endurance training, and more.
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
The reason we stand out from the competition is evidenced right in our name. We are a Tribe. We are a gym built on the strength of our community. As one of the longest-standing CrossFit gyms in the area, we also offer more class times than most gyms and more programs, including CrossFit Kids.
Exercise is challenging. How do you keep clients motivated and engaged?
The more you come into the gym, the more you get back. That is we'll actually reward you for coming in and coming often. From our specialty classes like Olympic lifting to endurance, we have all the tools to help you achieve your fitness goals.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
We realized long ago that an investment in one's self is the best investment one can make. This belief is the cornerstone of our business and that which drives us today.
What do you love most about your job?
We get to help our clients find their true inner warriors and, as a group of like-minded individuals, we get to experience greatness every day. When you get a group of high-achieving, hard-working, goal-motivated individuals together, magic happens and things you might not think are possible happen.
