When Master RKC instructor and experienced Feldenkrais practitioner Keira Newton started leading kettlebell workouts in the park for a few friends, she had no idea it would blossom into a fitness studio filled with students and a skilled staff of certified trainers. Clients of all body types and ages burn fat while building flexibility and muscle tone with synchronized aerobic movements and strength-building kettlebell routines. A lineup of classes targets specific areas of the body and exercise needs, from the cardio-intense core-tightening Reshape to the strength- and flexibility-boosting Clubbell yoga.
For 35 years, Valerie Compton has dipped her toes into every aspect of fitness. She followed up her experience in track and field and tennis by building her career as a personal trainer, and she later branched out into Power Pilates, Spinning, and nutrition. When she designed BarreFusion in 2006, she struck upon the latest trend in fitness. Today, Valerie has opened a new location and surrounds herself with instructors who channel their experience as classical dancers, gymnastics, and triathletes to lead rigorous barre classes.
Valerie starts her instruction with a BarreLite class that introduces newcomers to the proper forms and techniques to master fundamentals. From there, she encourages students to test out a number of other classes. The popular BarreFusion class combines Pilates, yoga, ballet, and light weights to sculpt legs and cores. She also offers highly popular Spinning classes that challenge students with a high-energy, aerobic workout that mimics cycling in front of stampeding wildebeests. To compliment the team, new instructor Kelly Carpenter leads Pilates caliente classes that combine barre and light weights to work towards power, strength, and core strength. The studio also offers TRX classes which provide a total body workout through suspension training and the use of your own body weight.

Certified yoga instructor Cathie Frank has had yoga in her life since she was a young girl, just playing around while her mom did yoga. It wasn't until later in her life, though, that yoga became a more serious adventure—and a journey of self-healing and personal development. Now, at Rio Rancho Yoga, she shares this love and knowledge of yoga in a variety of classes, including gentle flow and more fast-paced Vinyasa sessions. Seniors who've attended her gentle flow classes have liked the way she makes yoga accessible, while keeping it a fun challenge.
Chronic pain in her neck and lower back brought Melanie St. Georges into her first yoga class. She walked in stressed, tired, and afraid to fail. Despite that fear, she dove into her first class, and as she continued to practice daily, not only did she find herself pain-free, but she felt much more relaxed and balanced.
Today, Melanie leads her own team of dedicated instructors in the hopes of making yoga accessible so that others may discover its healing powers. Utilizing the Barkan Method of hot yoga—a variant of Hatha yoga—their classes aim to strengthen and stretch the entire muscular system while relieving mental stress. Heated air helps the body flush out toxins while deepening stretches and staving off injuries caused by a recent move into Aladdin’s lamp. When they’re not teaching yoga, instructors help clients boost their core strength with Pilates sessions that take place in a moderately heated environment. Blissful Spirits also offers daily donation-based daycare services during select hours.

Martial artists stomp, whirl, and jump across Judgement MMA & Fitness's 5,000 square feet of floor space, as trainers help them perfect their boxing, jiu-jitsu, and muay thai techniques. By tailoring lessons to each attendee's age and ability level, staffers push individuals to overcome their personal barriers, whether they be mental blocks or mimed walls. They even adapt their strategies to kids, coupling lessons in self-defense with important instruction in self-control and responsibility. Aspiring fighters can also prepare for in-the-ring combat by participating in practice bouts against live opponents instead of cardboard cutouts of their opponents.
