Little Rockstar Salon's kid-centric salon entertains energetic tots with its colorful decor, custom styling chairs, and fun spa services. The patient staff members help children and former Woodstock attendees feel comfortable during very first haircuts, offering rides in sleek haircut chairs that resemble airplanes and fancy sports cars, and customers leave the salon with a keepsake bag containing a lock of their hair and a photo of the experience. At the bubblegum-hued mani-pedi station, kids relax after long days in the sandbox board room as tiny nails are adorned in their favorite color. Private parties can accommodate up to a dozen kids, and keep them busy with glitter tattoos, hairstyling, music, and cake.
Cazzie Mayorga, an Australian native, stylist, and part owner of Gorgeous, forges alternative hairstyles by drawing upon years of experience dolling up actors and musicians that have included Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ozzy Osbourne, and Juliette Lewis. Regarding her talents, LA Weekly wrote, “Whenever a Hollywood scenester’s coif makes your jaw drop…there’s a good chance that Cazzie Mayorga is behind the creation.” The salon’s interior positively crackles with zigzags that bolt from wall to ceiling and airbrushed portraits of rockers including Alice Cooper, David Bowie, and The Ramones. The artwork encircles vanity mirrors, where real-life rock stars often appear to check out spiky new ’dos or to make sure that they didn’t accidentally put on a tie.
On an orange accent wall above the sleek black-leather stations at Jacques Michael Salon, a trio of models shows off perfectly coiffed styles in neon-colored vintage fashion sketches. The glamorous art reflects the salon’s belief that hair is a fashion accessory. The stylists—each with at least five years of experience—function like fashion designers, snipping and shearing designs that flatter clients' face shapes while reflecting the onward march of trends. Among their specialties, hand-painted Balayage highlights create a natural, multidimensional look. For most services, they reach for Redken, Matrix, and Moroccanoil products. While clients wait for their color to set in the café and wine bar, their cars wistfully wish they had hair in the free parking lot.

The AVEDA label indicates certain extras and established levels of training. Knox Salon wears that badge proudly, with skilled stylists and aestheticians greeting patrons with warm cups of tea, aromatic towels, and other little comforts. AVEDA products go into many of the treatments, which often begin with detailed consultations to help patrons identify their personal beauty goals. Many of those products are made with botanical ingredients, which can effectively smooth and color hair or leave facial skin smooth and youthful. Those properties are backed by the skill of the team, who receive ongoing and frequent training.
The hair-pampering pros at The Haircutters have trimmed locks and transformed outmoded manes for more than a quarter of a century. Unlike many salons, in which shampooing is a separate service, the team starts off every haircut and style by treating scalps to suds with handfuls of professional products from top brands such as Biolage and American Crew.
Apart from the signature shampoo-and-cuts, the staff at The Haircutters also offers color and texturizing services. Redken color camp for men gets hombres’ heads looking good, and spiral perms cascade with curls. Devoted to client convenience, The Haircutters welcomes walk-ins seven days a week.
