Six-foot obstacle walls tower over rows of barbells and bumper plates within Valley CrossFit's 15,000-square-foot facility. The gym strives to challenge all its members with diverse equipment, including seven climbing ropes, a 1,600-square-foot pro gymnastics floor, and a 48-foot-long pull-up and monkey-bar structure. Each CrossFit workout is designed to be challenging but can be scaled for participants of any fitness level, and the trainers constantly mix up class activities to keep bodies engaged. On any given day, members might find themselves swinging kettlebells, tossing medicine balls, or using rowing machines. Though group exercise is the core of the CrossFit program, coaches can also tailor the workouts even further during personal-training sessions.

Tru Fit Bootcamp?s owner Ditanyon Demps helps clients build strength and shed pounds through a simple strategy?he confuses muscles. When muscles adapt to a certain exercise, they burn fewer calories while completing it, making rote routines less effective over time. Instead of boring the muscles and their owners with repetitive workouts, he draws on nine disciplines of exercise to construct a new routine for his classes each day. He sets students into motion power lifting, stretching, and performing Pilates, among other exercise modalities, all while fostering a positive atmosphere focused on camaraderie. On any given day, students might work in teams to carry one another across a field in gurneys, or individually hop through hoops and swing kettlebells until they finally start ringing.

Cristina's not the type of personal trainer who will yell at you. Instead, she greets all new clients with a big smile and a supportive attitude. "If you come here," she says in the video on her homepage, "I will never judge you on how you look or what you can do. I really don't care! Because I'm going to get you wherever you want to be." Cristina?who, by the way, speaks eight languages and is qualified to work with students who have various conditions such as arthritis?keeps her Pilates and swimming classes small to maximize personal attention. Classes include swimming lessons for all ages, Pilates, yoga, ball, and stretch and tone. Whether leading a group class or a one-on-one program, Cristina makes sure her clients have a good time. "We have a lot of fun here," Cristina says, "and it's a very loving and caring environment, with a lot of beautiful individuals."

Friends and dog trainers Jill and Jamie were enjoying lunch together, recounting the events of the boot-camp class they had recently attended. Through the classes, they'd both found greater fitness and happiness, but lamented that their dogs couldn’t work out with them. Their discussion, paired with the knowledge that lack of exercise was a primary cause of canine behavioral problems, planted the seed that would later become Thank Dog! Bootcamp. Joined by personal trainer Noelle Blessey, they combined their areas of expertise to create a program to hone human bodies while providing exercise and obedience training for dogs.

Each class offers a combination of cardiovascular and weight training, often blending sprints, pushups, and lifts into a seamless series of exercises in which dogs participate. Typically, personal trainers call out commands to students, who in turn call out commands to their pets. The dog trainers then remain on hand to ensure that dogs behave well, obey commands, and receive obedience rewards.

Inside each Sky Zone location, a wall-to-wall half-pipe made entirely of trampolines gives children and adults a venue where they can safely hop, bounce, and somersault to their hearts' content. The vast, taut, springy flooring doesn't end at the walls, but instead the trampolines continue upward to form angles perfect for crawling up, springing off, or sliding down. Visitors can meander along the bounceable terrain in the open trampoline arena, throw themselves into giant foam pits, or sharpen their competitive edges in trampoline-assisted sports such as dodgeball. SkyBurn classes, which have been featured on The Doctors, merge gravity-defying fun with fitness during instructor-led workouts that include calisthenics, core exercises, and strength-building aerobics to help guests shed calories without hurting their joints or taking a wrong turn on a treadmill.
