Since its 1965 founding in Venice Beach, California, Gold's Gym has dotted the globe with more than 600 locations where professional athletes and exercise newbies gather under the umbrella of personal strength. Nearly 3.5 million Gold's members chart and aim for their fitness peaks, perspiring beneath the gaze of certified personal trainers or pedaling beside peers at cycling sessions. In a diverse lineup of group classes, patrons strengthen cores with Pilates, finger-paint pictures of ninjas in martial arts, and amp up heart rates along to the pulsating soundtracks of Les Mills routines. Many Gold's Gym locations stockpile futuristic amenities, such as cardio machines with individual iPod docks and televisions that help keep patrons motivated.
Anna Maria of the Anna Maria Academy Of Dance began her classical dance training when she was two years old. Since then, she has mastered a variety of styles—ranging from ballet to flamenco—and has worked in television on the BBC and in theatre productions on London's West End. Using the techniques she learned over this career, Anna Maria teaches students of all ages to dance with precise technique and self expression. Her ballet classes start with toddlers and basic steps and move up to adults and pointe work. She also runs sessions on modern, contemporary, tap, jazz, and hip-hop dancing, which focus on style, energy, and fluid motion.
As dancers step into The Choreography House’s sleek red-and-white studio, they’ll quickly realize that the vertical chrome poles are not structural supports. Instead, they’ll learn how to twist, climb, and pass a tetherball around these cylindrical columns under the supervision of instructors who have spent years gracefully entangling themselves around these very poles. Their classes train both aspiring professionals and those in search of a body-bettering hobby from a packed weekly schedule that hosts sessions Sunday–Thursday from late morning to late evening.
Founded by Selenia Logan, PinkPoleParty.org helps enrich women's lives by both raising money to fight breast cancer worldwide and helping women express their sensuality through pole-dancing workshops. While enjoying complimentary pink champagne and lemonade, hors d'oeuvres, and desserts, attendees run through two consecutive workshops: a pole dancing class, in which they learn warm-up exercises and basic pole moves, poses, and routines, and a lap-dance session covering the art of stripteases and flirtatious dances. All proceeds benefit breast cancer research through the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks.
