Owner Peter Roth describes The Robusto Room as “a very unique blend of martini lounge, meets nightclub, meets cigar bar.” Here, rich clouds of smoke elegantly curl from premium stogies bought at the onsite cigar shop as bartenders forge creative concoctions from behind a sleek wooden bar. In addition to the rattle of martini shakers, beats from live DJs fill the low-lit space hailed as Best Singles Hangout by the readers of 5280 magazine. Additionally, they offer a variety of events, including karaoke, Texas hold’em, trivia, and single-malt-scotch flights that entice whiskey aficionados and full-time Merle Haggard impersonators alike.
Since 1981, legendary standup comedians of the likes of Dave Chappelle, Ellen DeGeneres, and Joan Rivers have climbed onto Comedy Works' stages to ignite spirited laughter. The comedy club has also served as a launching pad for the careers of several hometown comedians, including Josh Blue, winner of NBC's Last Comic Standing. Comedy Works' calendar of upcoming shows divvies laughs between its two locations, splitting sides at The Landmark with spot-on celebrity impersonations performed by comedian and actor Kevin Pollak from March 22 to 24 ($20–$25). Before wiping away chuckle-induced tears and uncontrollably slapping strangers' knees, visitors at the downtown location can lap up cocktails from the lobby bar starting 75 minutes before every show.
Every year since 2007, Jazz@Jack’s has won first or second prize in the Denver CitvVoter category of Best Live Music Venue due to its nightly soundtrack of live jazz, blues, and funk. The watering hole's co-owners and house band Dotsero regularly perform their acclaimed brand of contemporary jazz tunes, which floated weightlessly out of the speakers of the space shuttle Endeavor during a 187-orbit flight around Earth. A full calendar of local and national acts lures patrons into the sleek space, where walls of windows reveal panoramic views of the surrounding buildings' toupees. A vibrant hand-painted mural depicting musicians interrupts warm orange walls as the stage's bright lights spill onto a black-and-white-checkered dance floor. Tall tables serve as rest stops for dancers to intermittently sip wine and cocktails blended at the full bar, and a spacious patio encourages the sharing of conversations and selections from Jazz@Jack's smattering of classic bar appetizers and desserts.
The Dinner Detective's renowned troupe of talented actors engages audiences with an evening of laughs, intrigue, and suspense as mock murder accompanies a four-course meal where everyone in attendance is a suspect. A dressed-down cast of professional Hollywood- and Chicago-trained sleuths circulates through the crowd, sniffing out phony alibis and asking the hard questions to solve the mystery of each whodunit. Before the night is over, the fictional criminal is cuffed and the most accurately detecting diner takes home a prize package.
The Dinner Detective leases out its gumshoes to clean up crime during private events such as fundraisers, family reunions, or embezzlement hearings. The thespians have sharpened their entertaining chops by performing for such Fortune 500 companies as Universal Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering.
