Elaine Sullivan is a health fanatic. As the lead instructor at the Salter School's massage-therapy training program as well as a personal trainer, physical-therapist assistant, and nutritionist, she believes in pursuing wellness from all directions. Elaine employs her past experience in the medical-massage and chiropractic fields to her current massage-therapy services, treating everything from common stress to chronic pain to sports injuries. Her custom massages include Swedish, deep-tissue, sports, and reflexology modalities, and she can be scheduled to perform chair massage for any type of event, party, or mutiny-planning luncheon.
As a personal trainer, Elaine holds private, semiprivate, and small-group sessions to help others get into and stay in shape. Her dedication to athleticism extends beyond her career—she has competed in two professional bodybuilding competitions and enjoys skiing, golfing, and building human pyramids with her three children.
After a more than 20-year career in retail, Kim Ryan heeded the encouragement of her husband, friends, and thoroughly wrung out dish towels to pursue an education at the Salter massage school. Today she’s a member of ABMP—Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals—and dedicates her life to helping do away with the stress of others. Ryan’s custom massages take on many forms, such as flowing Swedish strokes to improve range of motion in limbs, but they are all consciously geared toward giving clients a relaxing respite. When not melting muscles in her quaint studio, Kim can be found donating her massage skills for assisted living facilities and other worthy causes.
Before Lori Lyons became a licensed massage therapist, she was a massage patient herself. Thus she understands that the best massage therapists don’t just address problem areas, they also understand the deep connection between mind and body and educate their patients so they make informed decisions regarding their treatment plans. To help inform each client, Lori pulls from certifications in both craniosacral massage and myofascial release and her ongoing studies in anatomy and various massage modalities. She uses Swedish techniques to encourage relaxation, deep-tissue techniques to address severe tension, and water-heated stones to loosen sinews but keep them from floating away. In addition to easing physical pain, these methods can help strengthen the immune system, increase flexibility, and aid the body's natural healing processes. They may also be combined with Lori’s other specialties, which include ear candling and reflexology.
When Katie Kaplan graduated from Suffolk University with a master's degree in business, she found herself struggling to find a job in the midst of a recession. After finally landing a high-stress, low-paying position, she realized she had to make a career change. Katie decided to attend The Salter School, earned her massage license, and joined the ranks of the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals by donning their trademark foam fingers. Today, she helps others find overall wellness through massage modalities that can mend injuries, ease the discomforts of pregnancy, and quell anxiety. Kate also volunteered her services at a charity event raising funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis.
All of life's stresses tend to build up in the body, and over time, can lead to achy muscles, headaches, and even painful spasms. That's where licensed massage therapist Eli Telyas comes in. Drawing on more than five years of experience, Eli tailors bodywork to the individual's needs through comprehensive assessment and extensive anatomy expertise. Clients may opt for light to medium strokes to prompt deep relaxation, or firmer, more focused bodywork to assuage connective tissue and lower-layer muscles.
Licensed massage therapist Yudelka Bueno restores range of motion to squeaky human hinges with her signature bodywork. Yudelka's massage menu is as diverse as her clientele, because every session is tailored to the individual's health history, physiology, and preference. Yudelka employs flowing Swedish strokes or aromatherapy for relaxation and focused deep-tissue pressure to target chronic aches. Hot-stone massages are also available to improve circulation and melt away stress.
