Bonza Bash began when two Australian transplants living in Seattle decided to throw a combined birthday bash in Seattle. They drew inspiration from one of their homeland's signature parties, an annual event that finds comandeering busses, planes, and choppers for an all-night party under the stars of the rugged outback. Since the initial party in 2005, Bonza Bash has grown into a staple of Seattle's social scene, hosting bashes at venues including EMP, The Seattle Aquarium, Fremont Studios, and the Space Needle.
The show itself, the biggest on the West Coast, offers a boater’s paradise of boaty boating boatitude with more boats than you can shake an oar at. You’ll get to see, and shop, more than a thousand recreational watercraft, including inflatables, tugs, yachts, and the somewhat impractical flying cruise liner. Exhibitors include the 13th Coast Guard District, Alaska Series Inflatable Boats, Blue Water Yachts, Harbor Marine, Mastercraft Boat Company, Viking Life Saving Equipment, and Yachtcare, LLC. Seminar topics, will cover all of the ins and outs of fishing, boat maintenance, first aid, picking up mermaid hitchhikers, and other maritime concerns.
The Seattle Mariners have represented Washington since 1977. And since 1999, the team has dazzled hometown crowds under the lights at Safeco Field. The park boasts an elaborate scoreboard system that features an old-fashioned, hand-operated left-field scoreboard. A convertible rooftop covers the ballpark without closing it off, preserving an open-air environment that allows fans to bask in fresh spring breezes. Fans cheer on the Mariners amid the family-friendly surroundings as the Mariner Moose uses elaborate hand signals and oversize cue cards to lead his baseball platoon in choreographed home run dance numbers and sub-arctic migrations.
For over a century, the Seattle Symphony has built its audience and enraged Rumpelstilskins with an ever-growing collection of accolades and golden awards. Two Emmy-winning television specials stand out among a list of credentials that also includes 12 Grammy nominations and upward of 140 recordings. The orchestra continues to live up to its esteemed reputation thanks to new principal pops conductor Jeff Tyzik who has been hailed, "Among the best pops conductors in America,” by Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. He has also been recognized as an innovative conductor through his startling arrangements, original programming, and engaging rapport with audiences of all ages. The symphony is also well known for performing classical juggernauts such as The Rite of Spring as well as more whimsical nights of jazz standards.
Chocolate lovers unite at the Northwest Chocolate Festival, an annual event dedicated not just to eating chocolate in its many forms, but to tracking its journey from cacao bean to confection. Visitors hone their expertise through seminars on trade equity and cacao farming, chocolate-making workshops led by confectioners, and tastings where palates learn to distinguish between milk chocolate and a chocolate bar clumsily forced inside a milk jug. A portion of the proceeds from the event benefits local nonprofits aligned with the festival’s mission. Recipients are announced yearly.
