Though many people consider playing an instrument to be a lovely skill or hobby, the team at Dean Music Institute looks at it a bit differently. That’s because after a quarter century spent creating and teaching music, they have seen how learning to play an instrument improves both the player’s creativity and brain function, resulting in better test scores, memory, and decision-making skills. They also understand that students will reap the most benefits if they enjoy their courses of study. And so, when instructors lead group sessions in guitar or private lessons in piano, bass, or guitar, they set realistic goals in short assignments and dive into popular songs that students actually want to learn how to play. For those too busy to make it into the studio, they also offer lessons over Skype, and flash classes see instructors and students holding impromptu jam sessions at cafés, bars, shopping centers, and parking-ticket-violation hearings to share a love of artistic expression with the public.

Chef Lee Linton has sliced, diced, and sizzled up countless gourmet dishes for more than 30 years. He combines this hefty culinary experience with his passion for nutrition to craft 1,200- and 1,800-calorie meal plans designed to help health-conscious eaters like himself stay in tiptop shape without sacrificing taste or quality. Linton only uses fresh ingredients, shying away from the frozen, dehydrated, or astronaut-friendly ones often used in other premade meals. The menu, which is approved by an on-staff dietitian, rotates regularly, and meets the guidelines set by the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the American Dietetic Association, and the American Cancer Society. After Chef Linton and his team prepare the dishes within a USDA-approved kitchen, they’ll ship the meals directly to clients’ homes or prep them for pickup at one of Fresh ‘n Fit’s 37 locations.
Blake “Top Dogg” Rashad has spent more than 30 years earning his nickname. At age 12, Blake began training neighborhood dogs, a talent that would later lead him to prep military pooches for action during his enlistment in the Army. After his time in the service, Rashad joined the Atlanta police force to train crime-fighting canines.
Today, the expert in dog behavior hosts a weekly Internet radio show about dog behavior, local pet businesses, and canine-related news—playfully called “You Talk I Bark”—and also heads up Top Dogg K-9 Academy. At the academy, Rashad teaches dog owners the training techniques he has accumulated over the past three decades. Pooches leave six- or eight-week courses with a better understanding of how to communicate their needs to owners, and owners leave with dogs that respond quickly to commands such as “heel” and “drop my wedding ring.”
