Anytime Fitness, which boasts more than 1,800 clubs in North America, makes it easier for average folks to etch out time for exercise by doing one simple thing: staying open 24 hours a day for 365 days a year. As fitness seekers challenge themselves on cardio and Hammer Strength machines and hoist Iron Grip free weights in clean, well-stocked facilities, security monitoring ensures they’re safe and producing enough sweat to meet official government standards. Members can also ramp up their exercise regimens with the help of Anytime Fitness’s staff of personal trainers, who demonstrate moves and sling motivating tips. After workouts, guests can shower in the private restrooms or hop into one of the tanning booths available 24 hours a day.
Each facility in the family of Rockford-Area Bowling Centers enlivens the classic game of bowling with its own signature amenities. On Friday evenings, the staff at Don Carter Lanes temporarily extinguishes its warm, vintagey glow and replaces it with a dimly lit club atmosphere as DJs from 97 ZOK descend upon the alley, pumping out beats that mingle in the air along with a light and fog show. For supplementary entertainment, the Don Carter location also offers a gaming center, and the Park Lanes alley recharges guests with beer and deep-fried fuel at its onsite pub. The Cherry Bowl location keeps serious bowlers properly outfitted with a pro shop, saving them the hassle of paper-mâchéing their own heads to form makeshift bowling balls.
Schnitzel. Hefeweizen beer. Polka dancing. These are just a few of the facets of German culture that the German Society of Rockford has preserved and celebrated since 1964. At the group's annual German Society Oktoberfest gatherings, live bands perform and crowds take part in games such as the barmaid-stein race, which challenges men and women to carry dozens of sloshing beer steins without spilling a drop. The German Society of Rockford also organizes outreach programs, scholarships, and educational events.
Golfers of all skill levels converge at The Rockford PRO/AM, where pairings of professional and amateur players take to the fairways in support of several worthy causes. The longest running pro/am not associated with a professional event, the Rockford PRO/AM takes over the Forest Hills Country Club on Monday, July 14, with 20 foursomes paired with 20 PGS pros, including Kenny Perry. This marks the 11th appearance for Perry in the Rockford tournament—just two away from earning a free submarine sandwich to throw in his golf bag. Proceeds will go to four different charitable organizations, including a program committed to improving math literacy in children with Downs Syndrome and a group that delivers food to low-income families.

As a NASCAR Home Track, Rockford Speedway has rumbled under the wheels of hundreds of racers, including Ted Musgrave and Rusty Wallace, and after 63 years it continues to host nearly 50 automotive altercations each year. To inaugurate the 2011 season, over 50 vehicles will simultaneously take on the high banks of the quarter-mile oval track in the WXRX 104.9FM Stone & Double T 200 Lap Enduro. From the vantage point of the grandstand seating on both sides of the track, speedway spectators will watch as drivers exact road rage upon each other's vehicles to determine who is truly the best at making left turns fastest. On both the asphalt oval, as well as the Monza course, which utilizes the infield to test even the most skilled vehicular virtuosos, drivers will introduce their four-wheeled machines to walls, bumpers, side panels, and other drivers' four-wheeled machines.
