Q&A with Peter Jones, Owner and Sea Kayak Guide

Apart from your business's main attraction, do you offer any "hidden" services or activities that visitors are always delighted to learn about?
We have a skills-based Quickstart Kayaking workshop for beginners and intermediate paddlers, as well as weekly sunset and sunrise excursions. We offer Epic Kayak workshops where you can try out your sea kayaking skills in these innovatively designed boats. We also provide comfy overnight accommodations.

What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?
We like to think that most folks can learn to paddle all day without getting tired, so firstly we'll provide you with an ultra-light carbon-fiber paddle, which is easy on the wrists and arms, and then we'll teach you some of the energy-efficient techniques you can use to help you get the most out of your paddling.

I'm a first-timer. How do you get me ready for the experience?
At the beginning of each excursion, we will plan the day's excursion using a nautical chart and have comprehensive on-the-water training in paddling technique and safety procedures. We also review what to do in an emergency situation. The planning and safety talk will take about an hour.

Putt putters can bask in the soothing phosphorescent splendor of Glowgolf’s mini course as they navigate their illuminated golf balls through glowtopia. Courses contain sights such as light-defying blush corals, incandescent fishes, and lush foliage. Each pass is good for three 18-hole games, giving golfers ample opportunity to outmaneuver any vividly bright and very alive windmills that may appear. Equipment is available on the spot, so players won't risk bending their own putters when they chase after that pesky, good-for-nothing, hole-digging, ball-stealing, and most likely hallucinated gopher.

A network of 40 trails, including and six gladed trails, cut through the 249 acres at Shawnee Peak, which offers 98% snowmaking coverage. Slopes range from beginners to experts-only, with names such as Fat and Happy, Poacher's Paradise, and The Vain. The mountain also features three terrain parks—one of which is designed for children—brimming with air-bestowing features such as box jumps and the newly added BigAirBag. The five lifts that service these slopes run late into the evening for night skiing, which keeps 19 trails open and sometimes culminates in moon-lit ski races and whispered discussions about which famed 1924 skier is haunting the bathroom.

A more than 75-year-old ski school prepares visitors of all ages to tackle the mountain's slopes, while day-care providers watch over future skiers. In classes suited to adventurers as young as four years old, professionally trained instructors guide small groups of skiers and riders through basic to advanced techniques of skiing and snowboarding. Throughout each season, the resort hosts a variety of activities and events.
