We are basically a "neighborhood Hatha Yoga studio." All of our classes and each of our teachers have a "common thread" feel to them as a whole - a warm room, but reasonable temperature and humidity level, plenty of oxygen to breath, an emphasis on alignment and breath and reasonably paced vinyasa are included.
B Yoga Center strives to build a vibrant yogic community by training new instructors and leading an eclectic schedule of classes that match students of virtually any fitness or skill level. Although every class emphasizes a level of introspection and self-awareness, they also incorporate varying amounts of physical activity to create balanced workout experiences for the mind as well as the body. Heating ducts and nearby pockets of magma can raise the practice space’s temperatures to as high as 85 degrees for warm Vinyasa sessions, which use seamlessly flowing asana sequences to build strength and flexibility. Yin sessions focus on gently loosening muscles and connective tissues with deep, sustained stretches.
The center’s commitment to yogic lifestyles extends beyond the practice room as well. Thai yoga bodywork sessions combine yoga-inspired poses, acupressure techniques, and meditative conditioning to promote health and a sense of holistic well-being, and the onsite boutique ensures that students can find accessories and apparel in between classes.
Recognizing that there is a strength in numbers, Borealis Yoga strives to create a compassionate sense of community among all of its students so that the members can draw support and encouragement from each other as they further their practice. This practice is ideal for any ability level since the instructors lead an array of classes that embrace yoga styles intended for adults as well as children. Gently paced sessions emphasize stretches and a sense of introspective calm while the more physically engaging classes incorporate asana sequences or core-strengthening exercises on top of the fundamental poses. Regardless of the intensity of the class, every session incorporates mindful breathing exercises and meditation in addition to the physical asanas.
Located on the first floor of a renovated historic home in Union Square, Bow Street Yoga's gleaming hardwood floors and multiple windows let in ample amounts of natural light as one of of nine teachers leads students through Vinyasa, Yin, or restorative yoga classes. With their own unique specialties and teaching styles, the teachers are able to cater to patrons of all stripes, from athletic clients looking for a good workout to less intense participants looking for a prop-based session that incorporates blocks, bolsters, blankets, and chakra-cleansing rubber chickens.
At O2, advanced Yogi Bears can reach the uppermost plateau in an advanced-level power class, while beginning Boo-Boo's can dip stiff toes into the peaceful, limbering world of yoga for the first time with a basic class. Those falling in the in-between can develop the strength and flexibility necessary to tame the tiger that refuses to leave their kitchen by dropping into an intermediate class. O2 also offers classes in ashtanga-style yoga, if you're looking for a change of pace from the classic flow of vinyasa.
