If you didn't know any better, it would be easy to assume that The School of Shred is a place to learn guitar, or at least a place to practice the art of destroying important documents. Instead, the school teaches its students how to shred through waves, shred across pavement, and shred down mountainsides. It's a fitting business name for owner Corey Oswald, who has seemingly spent more of his life moving on some kind of board than on his own two feet. Corey has more than 20 years of experience surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. But today, and for nearly a decade now, he helps others get their shred on by offering group and private lessons in all three sports.
Eighty-one-thousand vines grow across Malibu Family Wines' 90-acre vineyard, producing eight varietals in total, including cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, and malbec. Once bottled and corked, many of the vineyard's Semler and Saddlerock wines end up at the tasting room in Los Olivos, a homey space with indoor and outdoor seating, occasional live music, and a large wooden tasting bar where customers are free to smell, sample, and swirl away. Those who enjoy the wines can rejoice knowing there's more where that came from?the vineyard expects to increase its vine total to 100,000 in the near future.
Professional, award-winning surfers and lifeguards comprise the team of instructors that equips students with gear and sends them paddling into the ocean. To ensure safety and capitalize on ideal waves, the seasoned athletes check ocean conditions and Poseidon's mood before taking groups or individuals out to sea. As beginners become proficient at catching waves, the instructors level up their curriculum and teach intermediate or advanced feats. Islands Surf Camp stays active in its community by donating time and gear to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, SURF, and Echo Malibu.
Nestled at the edge of the Santa Monica mountains, Park Place Stable’s 1,000-acre ranch is crisscrossed with horseback trails that promise beautiful scenic views of the Pacific from the vantage point of rolling foothills. During the secluded trail rides, even-tempered horses transport riders across myriad canyons and valleys, with the ocean breeze wafting in from the distance, mountains rising majestically toward the stratosphere, and steeds softly humming the theme from the Lone Ranger.

Tucked away in the Santa Monica Mountains, Malibu Golf Club's verdant fairways flow between canyon walls and cascade over dramatic elevation drops that give way to rugged vistas. Before teeing off, golfers can warm up by chipping complimentary practice balls onto a practice green or firing off full-swing shots into a netted backdrop. From the first tee, golfers trace shots over a narrow uphill fairway wrapped by pines and palm trees before settling into the challenging championship course. Bending drives around arching doglegs and weaving approach shots between green-hugging bunkers, golfers must remain focused amid the mesmerizing views of brown rolling hillsides dabbed with green brush, vibrant flowers, and nomad ball washers. Before turning toward the back nine, players are tested by a par 4 ninth hole, which demands an accurate tee shot to set up an approach across a water hazard bordered by thick rough that's home to the ghosts of many wayward shots and one bocce ball.
