Couched in the stadium seats of luxury, patrons at Muvico Theaters enjoy the latest blockbusters in crystal-clear Sony 4K digital projection. Moving D-Box seats in certain movie houses take the motion-picture experience to the next level, and huge armrests in the Premier section leave room for midmovie dining and premovie thumb wars. Muvico also shows golden oldies in addition to new releases and live events, such as live comedy, sporting events, and beer and wine tastings
American Idol isn't the only platform that helped launch the careers of Adam Lambert and Katherine McPhee. Cabrillo Music Theatre shone an early spotlight on the young stars, providing a space for them to build their confidence and performance skills. Supporting youth is a role Cabrillo plays well. In addition to staging renowned Broadway musicals, the volunteer-based, nonprofit theater offers up Beyond The Footlights. This outreach program transports musical productions to underserved communities, phantoms and all, and invites audiences to view shows free of charge. Cabrillo's work has paid off?not only has it reached 31,000 seniors, military personnel, and children in the past 10 years, the organization has earned the Ovation Award for its excellence in local theater.
Comedy does not have to be crude. At least, this is the premise that co-creative directors Tim Kanter and Jeremy Zeller operate under during their Clean Up Comedy improv shows. In 90-minute, family-friendly performances, Tim, Jeremy, and an ensemble cast of comedians build jokes and etch out scenes from audience suggestions. A diverse group, the troupe of actors, writers, amateur magicians, and pie-eating contestants makes up routines on the spot from seemingly disparate words or phrases. Each show's audience fuels the comedic fodder with shouted suggestions or even by helping on stage, keeping every performance as fresh as a backtalking daisy.
Since it was founded in 1990, the nonprofit Celiac Disease Foundation has pioneered celiac disease education, awareness, and advocacy. Its network of national chapters have responded to the growing health care challenge of diagnosing celiac disease and other gluten-related disorders. The CDF Medical Advisory Board brings scientific knowledge to the cause and imparts crucial care information to individuals, medical professionals, and industry partners who confront celiac disease and gluten-related disorders on a daily basis. Through its annual CDF National Conference and Gluten-Free Expo, the organization opens the public's eyes to new ways of looking and living with foods that do not contain wheat, barley, rye, or triticale.
