Redmond Athletic Club stands as a ziggurat built in honor of fitness. The 7,500-square-foot space resonates with music, vibrant colors, and natural light as personal trainers walk the spacious floors helping exercisers zero in on fitness goals. The open layout inspires exercisers as they gaze over rows of Precor ellipticals and exercise balls, stretch in the warmup area, or jog on treadmills. A strength-training room teems with equipment such as plate-loaded machines and free weights. Dry saunas and complimentary towel service soothe sore muscles after adventures in sweating and sculpting. From a childcare staff that watches over kids at the Kids Club while parents work out to the group of trainers, RAC's crack team of employees dehassles the gym experience.
Taught by professional footballer savant Chochi Valenzuela—a 10-year professional and three-time All American at USC-Spartanburg who has coached at the youth, high-school, and college level—and his team of sinewy turf tyrants, Speed Trainers USA's soccer boot camp can not only help melt off any excess flab, it can build up your skills and technique like so many easy snap-in pieces of a massive Lego tower. The starting whistle blows between 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. on the weekdays, 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. on Sunday. Check the schedule for more information. Bring proper soccer regalia, a water bottle, and your own ball. Capri Suns and Rice Krispie treats are recommended for an after-practice treat.
To fitness trainer Jon Chacon, the first order of business with any client is building a sturdy foundation of strength. His boot camp, athletic training, and strength camp incorporate both strength training and conditioning with bursts of high-intensity exercise. Pared-down workouts in a spartan facility use tools, such as ropes and sandbags, that emphasize agility and functional strength—values familiar to Chacon, whose experience ranges from commercial fishing to the Marine Corps. He also guides clients with nutrition and supplement guidelines, as well as monthly weight and fat measurements.
