Drawn from multidisciplinary backgrounds, each staff member brings a unique perspective to his or her work, whether it’s experience in adrenaline sports such as rock climbing or biking or higher-education degrees in fitness and physiology. From calisthenics and free weights to intense classes, they use any means necessary to rebuild each body in a more fit image. Trainers also host group classes ranging from cardio kickboxing to strength training, and supplement all of their personal and group workouts with extensive nutrition advice and counseling to maintain healthy weight loss. At Xtra Fitness, there's never downtime to wonder what machines are free or which exercise you should be doing. That's because the gym doesn't have memberships—it's entirely dedicated to the X-Circuit training program, led by owners Steve and Vanessa Herrick. The program puts students through a 45-minute circuit that incorporates both cardio drills and resistance work, challenging them to heft kettlebells, ropes, and their own bodyweight in between running or plyometrics. Two degrees of intensity accommodate guests of different fitness levels, and the trainers closely supervise each circuit, ensuring that everyone gets individual attention without having to raise their hand during a pushup. To stave off boredom, Steve and Vanessa also develop new circuits regularly.

Taught by professional footballer savant Chochi Valenzuela—a 10-year professional and three-time All American at USC-Spartanburg who has coached at the youth, high-school, and college level—and his team of sinewy turf tyrants, Speed Trainers USA's soccer boot camp can not only help melt off any excess flab, it can build up your skills and technique like so many easy snap-in pieces of a massive Lego tower. Monday, Friday, and Saturday classes take place at Green Lake's Lower Woodlands Park, Field #2; for Wednesday and Sunday classes beginning June 6, head over to Redmond's Perrigo Community Park. What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?

You won't hear our students' landings. It's a little secret called "ninja noise." This helps keep impact low, and stealth high.

As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?

Coaches are legitimately certified to teach Parkour, holding multiple parkour certifications. We are expert momentum anticipators and course creators. We minimize risk through safety drills, multi-level skill progressions and strength milestones. [Instructors are] First Aid? and CPR-trained in case anything happens. However we have not had one serious injury in the three years we've been coaching due to our safety protocols.

What is the experience customers can expect, and how do you make it special?

Through our classes students can expect to experience life-changing techniques. Ranging from the simple truths of how to squat sustainably to how to traverse lava while having fun and collecting speed and style points.
