As they enter the training circuit at Curves, female guests come face-to-face with the smiles of other women. And just as points on a circle share a common distance from the circle's center, workout participants share the experiences of those nearby by trading stations throughout the 30-minute training session. Thirty seconds is spent on a piece of strength-training equipment built for feminine frames and designed to work two opposing muscle groups with a single movement. Exercisers then move on to a recovery station, where they run, jog, or dance to maintain heart rates and keep platforms in place during momentary losses of gravity.

The Traveling Fitness Center trainers are nationally certified fitness gurus, ready to transform your home space (as long as it's located in the St. Louis County area) into an impromptu shape-up spot. They'll bring all the equipment (Bosu balls, step board, body balls, resistance bands, free weights) necessary to sculpt your physique into the taut, trim profile of a precisely licked ice-cream cone. Each session will last 45 minutes to an hour and will give you the guidance you need to take the first steps in a healthier direction. Two or three people can join in (space permitting), so buy extras and invite some flabby friends over.

Bowling is the great social equalizer—a common ground where grizzled undercover clowns, blue-collar English lords, LARPer librarians, big and tall lingerie models, hordes of hive-minded hipsters, and the other two social demographics that comprise America can unite in common cause and topple a gaggle of stuck-up, inanimate wooden pins. Brunswick has been a household name in this egalitarian pastime almost since the beginning, with a company history that dates back to the 19th century, providing classic American good times to all manner of patrons across the country. And with today's Groupon tying the room together, you'll get to play two games (up to a $7.98 value) in its hallowed halls wearing a pair of freshly disinfected bowling shoes (up to a $3.69 value).

Golf balls soar through the air and settle around various targets at Big Bend Golf Center, providing a steady soundtrack of thwacks as golfers practice their golf game. The center’s double-decker driving range boasts more than 25 hitting stations—including both grass and synthetic hitting mats—from which golfers can take aim at yardage markers that are boldly labeled with their distance from the tees. Covered by the top deck and warmed with outdoor heaters, the ground-level hitting bays let golfers practice their game year-round in any weather, rather than attempting to play with clubs made of icicles. Big Bend’s Golf Center complements the driving range with clinics and lessons with resident golf pros, who also provide re-gripping services and spike replacements for aging golf shoes.

Offering sunrise and sunset excursions, Air Balloon Sports floats riders through the clouds on brightly colored, eight-story-tall buoys of heated air. After venturing to the launch site, guests will meet the day's FAA-certified captains, crew, and up to 24 passengers. Air wranglers impart a formal safety briefing as balloons slowly take shape, filling with hot air supplied by area high-school debate teams. A blast of burners lifts leisure seekers into the air, drifting through the blue sky for approximately an hour, bandied about by the day's prevailing winds. Balloons will be followed on the ground by chase crews who rendezvous at the chosen landing site for a traditional first flight ceremony and champagne reception. Recently christened sky devils will also receive a commemorative flight certificate that can be used as a valid passport.

Though students at Fit or Fight's gym are only required to wear standard workout clothes and a mouthpiece, they might sometimes find themselves sporting MMA gloves, shin guards, and hand-wraps. That's because, in keeping with its name, the studio places almost equal emphasis on exercise as it does self-defense skills. This doesn't mean that students are required to fight—rather, the gym provides much of its training to boost strength and endurance or make users more intimidating if they ever run for public office. The studio offers 12 programs, ranging from general fitness—such as Zumba and cardio kickboxing—to intensive sessions in no-gi jujitsu, boxing, and MMA wrestling for youth or adults. In every program, clients are encouraged to work at their own pace while training as much as possible both on and off the mat.
