Keil Bros' garden center and nursery is heartily stocked with a plethora of seasonally changing plant products hailing from a number of regional growers, including Chesapeake Nursery and Monrovia Nursery. With the summer solstice recently passed, the center's verdant and sprawling inventory is now focused on helping the mid-season gardener. Ready-to-go planters ($25–$50) and pre-arranged hanging baskets ($15–$25) keep green thumbs green and pristine fingernails clean while also adding opulent oxygen sources to homesteads. Come the auburns of autumn, Keil Bros turns its gardens over to organic goodies such as apples from the Hudson Valley, ornamental cabbages, and pumpkins just begging to be brought to cackling life through blade and flame. Year-round, the center also provides essential tools and lawn-care goods from brands such as Toro and Lawn-Boy.
Stephanie Reinish employs high-end lenses and a low-tech playful approach to capture moments both fleeting and profound in the lives of families, infants, and four-legged friends of any phylum. During a 45-minute on-location session, candid models can feel free to test out ideas of their own or simply allow Stephanie's keen eye to hone in on a vibrant backdrop or adventurous pose. After the shoot, clients choose an image from a lineup of 10 proofs, pointing out a portrait to imprison in an 11”x14” print on charges of identity theft. Groupon holders also get 10% off additional prints, such as 4"x6" ($45) to spruce up a barren work space or an 8"x10" ($45) to brighten up a barren mantle.
Niki Broyn discovered her passion for photography when she started snapping shots of her four kids in 1996. As her children grew, so did her skills as a photographer, prompting her to found Nikibi Studio, where she currently captures the smiles of other families. She likes to incorporate her subjects’ passions in each photo session, taking pictures of musicians performing or cat burglars posing in front of a cracked safe. Niki also travels on location for special events, such as baptisms, and specializes in portraits for home, business, and commercial use—her shots never looking out of place above a mantle or in the pages of a magazine.
Though chef Nadege Fleurimond was once forced to stretch her culinary creativity as a contestant on Food Network's Chopped, she experiments in the kitchen every day. Her menus blend a unique array of American, French, Italian, Latin, and Caribbean recipes into dishes for all on- and off-camera occasions. Her culinary teams follow her instructions to build international entrees and desserts, passed appetizers, and cocktails during festive buffets and lavish sit-down dinners.
When Chef Nadege and her staff aren’t traveling to events all over the East Coast, they host local group cooking lessons. These informal classes have taught guests to decorate cakes, simmer Thai curries, and cook traditional Caribbean dishes. They also host regular events, such as themed dinner parties and knitting circles using handmade pasta.
For more than three decades, Barry Silverman and the bloom arrangers at PC Floral Designs have been orchestrating custom arrangements and baskets for special occasions. They emphasize individual customer satisfaction with their PC "personal touch" approach, approaching each pot, vase, and basket like it’s the first one they’d ever laid eyes on. They carefully help clients select the proper petals for their recipient, grouping cymbidium orchids for a tropical plant–lover or arrange a token of appreciation to send to compassionate bosses, well-behaved relatives, and other fictional characters. They also specialize in surrounding brides with favorite blooms, including pew arrangements and elegant huppahs.
The final zipping of a wedding dress before the bride races off to the church. A newborn boy resting his head against his mother's cupped palms. When Umberto Esposito steps behind the lens, he strives to capture candid, yet profound moments like these. In both his studio and on location, Umberto also snaps shots of expectant moms, families, and kids about to tip over their first three-dimensional chessboard in frustration.
