Jim Scoggins first felt the rocking of a ship's deck in the 1950s on the rolling waters of Lake Champlain. Though he traveled south and found himself in healthcare administration for the next few decades, he never lost the passion for sailing—and eventually returned to New England to conquer more waves in the 1980s. With Sail the Sounds LLC established at three local ports, Captain Jim now uses his original sailing craft, an O'Day 39, as part of his training and charter fleet. He and his wife, Teresa, helm an ASA-certified training center, charter service, and cruising club to set guests out on the sparkling waters of Mystic River and Mystic Harbor. Captains pilot three Hunter yachts for chartered trips, as well as six Hunter 240 sailboats for captain rentals, sailing-club events, and classes teaching technique for keelboats, coastal navigation, and safely chartering parties of water-fearing cats.

Your excursion begins at the Moab Adventure Center, from whence the fearless adventure-teers will transport you to a calm stretch of the Colorado River. You'll get all the necessary rafting gear before you hit the rapids on the rafting adventure of a lifetime. Over the two-day journey, you'll drift over 100 miles of the river, tucked 2,000 feet within breathtaking sandstone formations, canyon mazes, and natural rock arches carved from lingering long-melted glaciers. You'll come across ancient Native American ghost-towns and camp overnight on the banks of the Colorado, where guides will prepare a freshly cooked dinner complete with delectable dessert before you retire for the night (roomy tents and cozy, elevated cots are included). At the end of the second day, a Cessna 5–7-seater aircraft will take you on a scenic hour-long flight over Canyonlands National Park and back to the adventure center in Moab.

Tours traipse across the North Fork of Long Island and offer a rare, on-the ground view into local wine culture. Riders progress at a leisurely pace over predominantly flat terrain and well-surfaced roads while stopping to enjoy sips at local vineyards. All riders are provided with bicycles that feature baskets for carrying home souvenirs and bottles freshly plucked from the vineyards' wine trees.
