The collections at Elaine Turner are more like a step in the right direction. Each one is an extension of Elaine's own personality and passions embodied by bold prints, rich colors and exotic textures. The collection of shoes—heels, wedges, flats and sandals—cover all terrains. The 2010 Spring Collection is inspired by the theme of “Island Hopping,” so sandals are given top billing with distinct styles such as the T-strap ($175–$195), Roman ($175), and flip-flop ($150) to select. The hand bags ($150+) come in more than six styles and also contain island-themed beach options, which are fit for lugging metal detectors, pirate maps, and fully constructed sand castles around an archipelago.

Before Dr. Mary Anne Peck founded Eyecare and Eyewear in 1984, she earned her doctorate in optometry at the University of Houston College of Optometry and interned at Fort Carson Army Base. Her associate, Dr. Karen Allen, earned her doctorate at the University of Houston and traveled to Georgia for an internship at Fort Benning. After putting her skills to work at a large ophthalmology practice in Florida, she moved back to Dallas, where she practiced refractive and cataract surgery at a surgery center.

Together, Drs. Peck and Allen helm a staff of assistants and therapeutic opticians who stay on top of their ever-changing field by constantly studying and never shutting their eyelids. Their vision-improving services include prescriptions crafted with wave-front technology and retinal exams performed without dilation. In addition to contact lenses, they stock stylish frames by brands such as Gucci, Rayban, and Calvin Klein.

Frustrated in her quest to secure toxin-free wares for her baby’s nursery, Liz Johnston began to closely research the origins of products that claimed to be green or natural. Her discoveries inspired her to found The Greener Good, which compiles only eco-friendly, chemical-free goods for abodes and bodies. Johnston researches all of her suppliers’ claims, and her scrutiny has earned her praise from the Star-Telegram. She’ll happily relay her products’ origin stories to curious customers, leaving them feeling confident in the quality of their purchases and in their purchases' ability to be licked without repercussions.
