Tell us about your business.
I have been an esthetician for 3+ years and I've now opened my own suite. I love to make people relax while I give them the skincare that makes them feel fresh and beautiful. I use all-natural products because it is better to know exactly what is going into the largest organ of your body.
Do you offer your customers any extra perks?
There are magazines to read outside of my room, and I like to give water for when the service is over.
The interior of a business can affect how its customers feel. What kind of decor do you use to help make your clients feel pampered and at ease?
I keep it calm and relaxing in my room, I always tell my clients to be as comfortable as they can, and if they fall asleep then I have done my job.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a client?
I was told that I have healing hands. They said that I bring comfort and take away the stress from the world and that I helped them to forget their problems while they were with me.

The initials in AIB Salon stand for "art of Indian beauty," and traditional South Asian beauty techniques are indeed its focus. Stylists can deftly use modern techniques such as Japanese hair-straightening or permanent eyelash extensions, but the team specializes in the ancient art of threading—manipulating 100% cotton threads to remove unwanted facial hair with more speed and precision than waxing, shaving, or tweezing. It's also gentle, since the thread lassoes each hair without causing discomfort to the surrounding skin.
Newly de-fuzzed faces can celebrate with facial treatments that incorporate herbs and even gold. Indeed, a taste for glamour permeates AIB Salon: makeup artists revel in creating jaw-dropping wedding looks and, especially, henna designs almost too elaborate to be believed.
With more than 20 years in the beauty industry under her belt, Karen Pickens has more than earned the title of master stylist. At Delaney Salon Suites, she provides expert haircuts for men, women, and children, as well as highlights, corrective color, relaxers, and bridal styling. Hair, however, is not her only focus. She also waxes away unwanted strands and applies makeup for special occasions, such as weddings, proms, and vacations to the DMV.
Knockouts Haircuts for Men amps up the classic barbershop experience with a lavish, sports-themed approach to men's styling that has been featured on Today and CNBC's The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. At a still-growing number of locations throughout the country, the company's all-female staff of stylists quarterbacks a full playbook of services ranging from bare-essential to spa-worthy. First and foremost, they clip shaggy locks, but they also administer facials, manicures, massages, and waxes. Complimentary beverages are included with every visit, giving patrons something to sip on while watching a sports game on TV or contemplating how they would fend off a lion using just a comb.
