Skill and fitness level don't matter at Bikram Yoga Maple Shade. Every student shares the same path to self-improvement regardless of experience, performing the exact same sequence of 26 postures and two breathing exercises during all 90-minute sessions. Another constant is the practice room's thermostat, which remains set to 105 degrees at all times. This balmy heat intensifies an already challenging practice, but also helps to loosen tight muscles, which allows students to better sink into each stretch.
During classes, the sequence of seated and standing asanas has a natural progression, systematically engaging muscle groups and organ systems throughout the entire body. Continued practice can help students improve their strength, stamina, and flexibility. Additionally, each class acts as a form of moving meditation that requires the same kind of intense mental focus as recalling your kindergarten teacher's middle name.
Yokohama Japanese Restaurant's owner, Cindy Chan-Sze, shares ownership with her son, who infuses the largely traditional fare with creative new recipes. The eatery's cooks craft selections from a multifaceted menu that includes fire scallops, filet mignon, and salmon cooked atop a flaming hibachi. In the middle of the restaurant's dining room sits a full sushi bar, where chefs roll fresh-caught fish and supple sticky rice into maki, sushi, and sashimi beneath the glow of traditional Asian lanterns. Guests can watch the skilled knife work from the sleek, leather chairs that surround each dining table or by scaling the modern screens that climb up each wall for a better view.
Cars roll away from the checkered exterior of East Gate Car Wash & Lube Center renewed by the shop’s wash, detailing, and maintenance services. Washes rinse away recently acquired roadway gunk with paint-safe soaps, while applications of sealant and rust protector guard cars from long-term damage. To restore vehicles' health without feeding them an apple every day, technicians swap old oil for new in the facility’s garage, the same place they perform routine maintenance on tires, tweak engines systems, and regulate fluids. An onsite lounge placates waiting patrons with cups of complimentary coffee and a convenience store stocked with snacks, drinks, cards, and car products.
What might look like walls dotted with large wads of bubblegum to beginners, soon transforms into a network of pathways after students complete indoor rock climbing courses at Elite Climbing. The experienced staff are always onsite to lend a hand, even outside of class time, and demonstrate a sport that requires both physical and mental agility. With bouldering and top roping walls, both amateur and expert climbers can find an adequate challenge as they master 120 climbing routes from 19 stations. Kids can also get in on the action, during classes and summer camps that keep them from getting grounded for rappelling off the neighbor's roof.
