Over the years, Lone Star Landscaping, Inc. has built an extensive portfolio of custom outdoor designs. Their punctual and precise artists plant gardens and outfit yards with built-in barbecues, fire pits, and stonewalls. While homeowners amble along their newly built pavers and decks, water fountains trickle and pavilions shelter outdoor-entertainment centers. Their techs can also armor homes with stone façades, giving them a rough-hewn appearance and a sure defense against Napoleon's army.
A Southwest-based company for more than a century, Frazee Paint and its team of manufacturers are well acquainted with the unique climactic conditions of the region. Always pulling from the latest technology, their technicians design each of their paint and coating products to withstand dry heat, sparse rainfall, and showers of chewing tobacco from passing cowboys. Their quality paints, wall-coverings, wood-care products, and painter's tools stock the shelves of more than 125 retail locations throughout California, Arizona, and Nevada, as well as international dealers in Mexico, China, and Guam.
The team at AA Cleanup & Lawn Maintenance are experts at keeping yards green and pristine. Ongoing lawn-maintenance visits keep curb appeal at capacity by fertilizing and trimming turf on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis. For outdoor spaces in need of a larger overhaul, homeowners can enlist the team for landscaping services such as spreading rocks, planting shrubs and flowers, or installing brick borders, and shaping and thinning services help trees fit back into their wedding foliage.
In 1906, Tollef Skarsgard emigrated from Norway to pursue an American education. After attending school—and learning English along the way—he started a farm in North Dakota, which he first seeded in the spring of 1912. One hundred years and four generations later, Skarsgard Farms continues to produce a wide variety of crops. Tollef’s great-grandson, Monte Skarsgard, now oversees an upgraded version of the estate, where he harvests organic fruit and vegetables, and dresses scarecrows in designer overalls. The farm also distributes prepackaged produce from a variety of regional organic farmers year-round through an online delivery service called the Harvest Box Program.
The algae adversaries at Splash Pool Service keep pools properly purified and prepped for ultraclean swims and soaks with effective pool-cleaning services. Algae buildup causes dirty water, pool staining, and, if left unchecked, a gelatinous blob that swallows up a pool owner's home before morphing into a question mark. During a cleaning service, which takes place every other week, professional pool techs calm the waters of residential swimming pools with all the necessary pH balancers, conditioners, and chlorine shocks to make pools fizz with Old Faithful–esque enthusiasm. At the end of the cleansing, formerly unattractive liquid cages glow with chemical beauty, ready to receive any belly flop or triple-back-flip can-opener combo without drenching the swimmer in slime.
Armed with only their courage, adventurers work their way through darkened alleys of corn, the path lit by nothing more than a curtain of stars above. But they're not alone. Through this maze lurk crazed doctors, hungry zombies, and grisly artifacts of murder and mayhem––an army of bloodthirsty terrors standing between groups of unwilling victims and the exit.
Not all the stalks at Buckelew Farms are haunted, however. Those who escape the Terror in the Corn unscathed can relax their nerves and test their navigational skills in the flashlight maze, where groups survey the darkness to find 12 different checkpoints that offer up clues to the maze. The casual-paced attraction offers up a challenge similar to a classic scavenger hunt, but without the creepy neighbors. Both mazes make a great ending to a day at the farm's 24th Annual Pumpkin Festival, where guests enjoy a lively collection of fall pastimes. Tractors tow carts of hay and families to pumpkin fields to pick out an ideal jack-o'-lantern candidate, and a smattering of colorful tents house arts and crafts activities, children’s games, and a petting zoo full of friendly beasts waiting to be pet, fed, and stealthily adopted. The farm will also be hosting a Great Pumpkin 5K race on October 14, during which participants chart a course through the farm and parts of the corn maze in order to win prizes and raise funds for the University of Arizona Medical Center Departments of Surgery and Neurology.
