Florida Network Technologies' mission is twofold: to outfit homes and offices with whatever technological tools they need, and to keep those tools running in a digital jungle of malware and viruses. To prevent such threats, more than 20 skilled technicians travel on-site to backup and restore data, outfit newly installed hardware with antivirus programs, and scan systems for harm. Yet their services extend into the minutia as well, with the tech gurus configuring wireless routers and installing VOIP phone systems or remotely managing networks and servers. They can even offer advice without making a personal appearance, giving tech support over the phone or guiding patrons through software setup via hologram.
CrossFit Great Ones’ coaches believe in the CrossFit system because its functional-movement exercises performed with high intensity readies their students for all physical activities. Through its varied exercises and equipment, it also develops every muscle group while enhancing speed, agility, and power. The reason the coaches love the program, however, is the team spirit it evokes as coaches and students alike motivate each other to achieve their fitness goals. They further nurture that sense of community by sponsoring local charity events, volunteering, and donating a portion of new membership dues to charities.
Sunshine Learning Center’s full-time tutors work closely with students to address their academic stumbling blocks and improve test scores. After identifying each pupil’s learning style and holdups, tutors tailor lessons to suit the student’s individual needs. While some may benefit from traditional instruction, students with test anxiety may need to work on confidence-building problems before tackling larger formulas. Using these and other tools, instructors can help students prepare for standardized tests or improve their grades in a difficult subject, such as math, English, or classroom-hamster care 101.
SOS Children's Villages - Florida nurtures youth in foster care through a neighborhood built exclusively for them. The street's 12 houses buzz with the activity of the 75 resident boys and girls, who were removed from their homes due to abandonment, abuse, and neglect. They spend their childhood with foster families selected by a caseworker and have access to an array of social and mental-health services. Most children stay at the Village for about two years until they are found a permanent adoptive home or reunited with their biological families. The Village places a high priority on maintaining family connections among siblings, generally placing them in the same house.
SOS Children’s Villages sustains a connection with all its youth after they turn 18 through the After Care program, which helps them transition into adulthood and self-sufficiency. SOS boasts incredible success with this program: 83% of its alumni have graduated high school—33% higher than the national average for foster children—and 47% have gone on to pursue higher education.
