Education is key for board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Marcus Crawford. After graduating from Baylor College of Medicine, he went on to receive extensive training in cutting-edge reconstructive techniques at MD Anderson Cancer Center, which eventually led him to volunteer for a mission with Operation Smile in Lima, Peru, where he worked to repair cleft lips and other palate deformities in children. He also believes his patients should be properly educated about the procedures they undergo at his namesake office, and so Dr. Crawford and his team discuss each treatment option during a thorough consultation that reveals each patient’s beauty needs and aesthetic goals, and chart the best course of treatment.

Along with cosmetic surgery for the face and body, Crawford Plastic Surgery also offers nonsurgical med-spa services that include microdermabrasion and wrinkle-reducing dermal fillers, such as Botox and Juvéderm. The office is also outfitted with disposable permanent-makeup equipment, which technicians use to tattoo organic, cosmetic-colored ink onto skin, thus defining the brows, lips, and eyelids, or camouflaging scars caused by a malfunctioning magical wand.

Sacred Garden Yoga founder Cindy Olah discovered a love for nature growing up in Peru. She’s fused that passion with yoga instruction by leading retreats in the mountains of North Georgia, North Carolina, and back home in Peru. Whether outdoors or within her pastel-green workout studio, Cindy and fellow instructors lead non-competitive sessions that foster lifelong friendships. Their group, private, and prenatal sessions emphasize proper body alignment and breath work. Students can also discover healing with reiki and reflexology treatments and workshops on subjects such as meditation and painless band-aid removal.

At barbecues during his tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs, Al Boyce took pleasure in cooking for his fellow teammates. Faced with the free time of retirement and the new responsibilities of being a father, Boyce took his passion further by experimenting with preparation and seasoning techniques and calling on the grilling wisdom passed down to him by his own father. His ventures bore succulent, lean barbecue, which he now plates at Chazz's Place, a southern-inspired, home-style eatery named for Boyce's young son. Each cut of meat that cooks in the grill's aromatic smoke retains as little fat as possible to keep morsels well-textured but healthy. Filets of tilapia, salmon, and catfish adorn dishes grilled, deep-fried, or blackened, which harnesses the traditional method invented by Cajun chefs to protect meals from the monsters under their beds. Though hours of careful cooking go into each entree, the Marietta Patch heralds that sides are Boyce's specialty—especially the yams, which reporter Melissa Kory says have a "flavorful punch" and "the traditional zing with an extra pow."

The sound scissors make as they slowly but confidently close over a thatch of hair is as comforting to Brandy Wyrick as a child’s security blanket. She first heard that sound at a young age as her mother ran the gleaming edges through clients’ manes in her salon. Brandy spent weekends playing with mannequin heads as a child, later graduating to real heads at Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy. Today, she recreates those same snipping sounds inside Hair By The Square and during any open mic event she comes across.
