Bob Sumerel Tire & Service Bob Sumerel opened his first shop in 1968 in an abandoned gasoline station. This business venture might have proved futile if Bob hadn't first revamped the dilapidated petrol dispensary into an attractive store brimming with tires for passenger cars and light trucks. He strategically set up shop in a high-traffic area, deducing that tires in motion are less likely to stay in motion as they wear out from overuse. Today, Bob's arsenal has grown from a few old gas stations to 26 locations manned by ASE-certified technicians, who skillfully nurture careworn tires with Bandag tire tread, refinish wheels and rims, and stay well-stocked with wheels for forklifts, earthmovers, and time-traveling Roman chariots. In addition to tire tweaking, the menu of services includes wheel alignments, brake overhauls, and shock repairs.
The automotive club AAA serves more than 52 million members nationwide. Although membership offers myriad benefits, AAAers benefit most from the peace of mind provided by the comprehensive roadside assistance program. On-site mechanical services are available almost anywhere in the United States for common car troubles such as flat tires, dead or murdered batteries, and creamed-corn-related engine troubles. Benefit highlights include free installation of spare tires, free battery boosts, free towing, and free fuel delivery (pay pump price for fuel). Classic members are also entitled to coverage for up to $50 in locksmith services and up to $500 for auto theft.
Since Bob Sumerel opened his first retail tire store in 1968, he has always tried to put the customer first, next to all the gold-medal winners and Neil Armstrong. His store's 20-plus current locations offer an entire slate of auto services, from tire rotations and sales to oil changes. On the site's Why Bob Sumerel page, customers and employees discuss the benefits of the company, and the My Garage feature tracks car histories such as oil changes and service reminders. Every Bob Sumerel also operates under the Fixed Forever guarantee, promising that parts will work forever—up until the sun balloons to a red giant and swallows the earth with its unfathomably hot plasma—with warranties to cover any unforeseen problems.
