Located near Ohio Wesleyan University, Something Sweet Coffee & Bakery serves up Ohio-roasted coffee, specialty café drinks, and baked goods that are made fresh each day onsite. Every morning, Rita's Italian Ice's dessert-makers show up to work and start smashing fruit to bits. The two drive-thru lanes on either side of Mudslingers Drive-Thru Coffee pave the way to more than just caffeinated drinks. In addition to their South American roasts and flavored-espresso drinks, the baristas inside the petite coffee joint whip up smoothies and shakes from their signature line of ice creams carried during the summer. Outside, a small sunny patio hosts potted flowers and two park benches where clients can sit and sip or duel over who gets the last mini donut in the box of a dozen.
Switching from pharmacist to gourmet cupcake baker isn't an obvious career path, but for Sonya Kissi it was a logical one. Inspired by cooking shows on TV, she began baking pastries and sweets at home and discovered she had a knack for it. Soon she founded KissiCakes-n-Sweets, where she and her team bake fresh cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and cheesecakes from scratch each day. Her cupcakes remain the main focus, in flavors such as key lime and raspberry lemonade.
With more than 20 frozen-yogurt flavors, upward of 50 toppings, and the freedom to combine them in any combination, the variety of treats that Bad Frog Frozen Yogurt's customers can devise is virtually infinite. Customers grab a cup and head to the treat dispensers for yogurt, all of which carry the live-culture seal. Though the flavors may change frequently, the shop always offers nonfat, low-fat, and no-sugar-added options to let health-minded customers indulge without guilt and to let frat boys save room on rowdy frozen-yogurt crawls.
