Clowns juggle balls, trained poodles assemble into a line, and aerial gymnasts soar on the trapeze, and that’s all before the bride cuts the cake. Wonderful World of Circus’s artists unfurl high-flying spectacles at weddings, birthday parties, and corporate events. From acrobats to tightrope walkers, their local and international performers showcase feats of derring-do at private events and shows for the general public, which combine acrobatics and dance to tell stories.
Extending a hand through the fourth wall, Wonderful World of Circus brings kids and adults into the circus to learn these skills for themselves. Trapeze bars, silks, and rings hang down from the training centre's walls. Here, colourful mats and padded floors cushion students as, guided by professional circus performers, they flip through the air like Superman MMA fighting a flock of evil geese. Back on the ground, instructors teach other skills such as juggling and break dancing. Aside from its standard classes, Wonderful World of Circus hosts birthday parties, children's camps, and school field trips at the centre.
CyberGolf Lessons' duo of veteran instructors smoothes out swings and divulges birdie-hunting wisdom at the Markham Golf Dome. The score-shaving syndicate pairs human expertise with modern golf refinements, utilizing video swing analysis that provides golfers with a visual aid to better understand instructors' feedback and determine their sand wedge's good side. After lessons, pupils have access to a Swingview! Pro profile that stores video captures of their unique motions, allowing them to compare them with a database of PGA Tour swings and chart their progress over time. CyberGolf also doles out rental clubs free of charge for use during lessons, saving beginners the hassle of buying new clubs or inventing the self-hitting golf ball.
P.O.W.E.R. Lesson’s founder and CPGA-certified pro Dave Hartmann follows the tenets of the Power Lesson golf-training regimen to help bolster the performance of his students. A veritable Johnny Appleseed of golf, the seasoned ace travels to various sites across the greater Toronto area, spreading golf wisdom and planting divot tools that soon blossom into argyle socks. The 60-minute Power Lesson serves as the basic unit of Dave’s teaching endeavours. He focuses on one element of his pupils’ game with video analysis, and sends them home with a video that summarizes the lesson and offers tips that players can use for future reference or play on a nonstop loop whenever their 9-iron needs to be lulled to sleep.
Jacqueline Gobeil believes that everyone can dance. She decided to prove her theory by teaching dance lessons form her own living room. Over the past 10 years, her one-room outfit has expanded to five studios in three locations and an annual recital showcasing more than 150 dancers of all ages. With each lesson, she teaches her students to exude confidence through their toes as they tickle the floor with an eclectic blend of ballet, hip-hop, and tap steps. Her curriculum aims to increase self-confidence, foster the development of new friendships, and improve fitness in students at any level or age.
