For 35 years and counting, artists Charles and Susie Andrews have helmed a gallery displaying the work of Pennsylvania artists alongside nationally recognized artists from across the country. In addition to curating an art space, the staff also specializes in custom framing and fastidious photo-restoration services to help customers adorn their homes and offices with art and archival-quality framing. Their restorers retouch art and photos with dedicated attention to detail, breathing new life into sepia-toned relics by repairing damage such as mold spots, water damage, cracks, discoloration, or shattered monocles. Their artistic eyes especially come in handy when restoring compositional problems such as redeye, underexposure, or awkward backlighting. In addition to the finished piece, clients also receive photo documentation of any work done.
The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley includes 6 acres of lush gardens and a purpose-built museum facility designed by architect Michael Graves. Visitors can marvel at the exterior of the Glen Burnie Historic House as they explore the unique design and languid paths of the public gardens, which knit together the stately Grand Allée, the mini Hidden Garden, and a tranquil water garden that flooded the original garden of old chia pets. The museum showcases four main galleries, displaying Valley memorabilia, a Civil War exhibition, and a collections of miniature houses and rooms, paintings, furniture, and portraiture dating to the mid-eighteenth century to the formerly private collection of benefactor Julian Wood Glass Jr.
A nonprofit castle-themed adventure land created by The Good Knight Child Empowerment Network, The Good Knight Enchanted Kingdom & Family Museum is an interactive fairy-tale realm designed to teach children about safety. Founded by a coalition of retired federal officers, The Good Knight Child Empowerment Network's mission is to empower kids and their parents through education, using the fairy-tale format to bring awareness to such hard-to-talk-about topics as child abduction. Through special events, shows, summer camps, and onsite adventures, costumed fairies and brave knights lead their young charges on themed challenges and quests to encourage them to fulfill socially responsible roles and build their self-esteem. The shows also teach children how to employ the ABCs of protection and how to recognize the 10 basic physiological deceptions that criminal predators often use to manipulate their victims, giving kids the skills to defend themselves and their peers.
