Started in 2001 as a small operation in founder Bryce Phillips’s Seattle apartment, evo has since grown into a full-fledged retail store voted Best Ski and Snowboard Shop three years in a row in CityVoter’s King5 Best of Western Washington poll. Inside, Bryce and his crew of more than 100 winter- and summer-sports enthusiasts help visitors gear up for adventure with equipment by makers such as Armada, K2 Burton, and Lib Tech and outerwear from The North Face and Patagonia. A team of technicians also keeps equipment in top condition with tune-ups and other services, sharpening skis and waxing snowboards to keep them from growing fur. At evo’s flagship Fremont/Wallingford store, the staff relays the company-wide values of style, a balanced lifestyle, and authenticity by hosting events such as movie screenings and art showcases and devoting extra time to serving nonprofits throughout the community.
Wallflower Custom Framing owner Courtney Sievertson applies nearly 10 years of framing experience to every custom border she helps her clients design. She keeps her selection of more than 1,800 frames stocked with only trusted sources, gathering wrapped leather frames from saddle makers in Peru, frames with hand-carved corners and individual leafing from C&J in New York, and carbonite casings from expert makers in Cloud City. Her commitment to delivering excellent customer service often leads her out of the store after hours for consultations.
In addition to providing framing services, Courtney uses Wallflower to showcase the work of local artists in its gallery space, dubbed the Shooting Gallery.
The Alki Beach boutique boasts a bounty of women's, men's, and children's clothing and swimwear. Familiar beach brands bounce alongside smaller swimwear labels in the cheerful shop. Buy the special gentleman in your life a pair of black-and-white Quicksilver board shorts ($52) for his surf across the fjords of Bergen or suit up in a colorful Billabong Indian paradise bikini ($86) and be prepared for impromptu beach romances or fierce swim-fashion walk-offs. Coastal also has gale-shielding coverups and fashionable footwear to protect delicate soles from harsh granules of sand or ant insurrections (black-and-pink Reef Seaside sandals cost $24).

Eco Earth Manor brings color to carrying with a lineup of fair-trade-certified baskets ($14+) from Ghana, and biodegradable doggie bags ($5.99) let Fido do his part while doing his business.
