Spread throughout Long Island in addition to branches in New York City, Westchester, and the Capital Region, Sportime's 12 locations offer visitors ample space and equipment to engage in their favorite exercise-related endeavors. The network of fitness factories contains 144 indoor and outdoor tennis courts, where adults and juniors alike can play during open-court times, receive playing tips from expert instructors, and practice their victory taunts. Multisport facilities host a number of other games, from roller hockey and lacrosse to volleyball and basketball, and the fitness centers house cardiovascular and strength-training equipment. Sportime's Randall's Island Tennis Center has even paired with legendary tennis star John McEnroe to create the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, which will soon expand to Sportime locations in Westchester and on Long Island.
Certified professionals serve up a flurry of small-group and private clinics at Bay Terrace Tennis, an elite indoor facility where players of all skill levels develop their racket prowess and submit their bodies to challenging workouts. Neon balls illuminate the indoor courts as groups of four to six learn to chart cross-court trajectories that leave opponents haplessly ensnared in a mess of netting and sweatbands. The size of each five-week clinic ensures a high degree of personal attention and a low tolerance for using the court to play golf. Instructors place students according to their level, so beginners can start from scratch while seasoned vets brush up on their backhands and prepare to reignite rectangular rivalries with former Tour menaces.
Staffed by tennis professionals, Alley Pond Tennis Center is home to one of the largest indoor tennis bubbles in North America and spaciously houses 11 hard courts, along with several located outdoors. Mini-camps are excellent both for the tennis tenderfoot who wants to master the game's basics or the evil supervillain who wants to infiltrate the meddling League of Mutant Tennis Teens. In classes ranging from five to eight players, students will be provided with rental racquets and balls and within two hours will have subdued the strokes, savored the scoring, and charmed the miserly nets of the game.
Jason Sacher serves full-time as the head coach for the women's tennis team at Marist College, a Division I institution. If you’re looking for Jason outside campus, you’ll probably find him studying students’ footwork on the Har-Tru clay tennis courts at his eponymous tennis academy and at various locations of clients' choice. Having played number 1 singles and doubles for New York University, and as a junior player ranked nationally in the top 100 before that, Jason now shares his experience with players of all experience levels. He tailors his teaching strategies to the goals and objectives of each individual, whether he’s working with a weekend warrior, a touring professional, or an anthropologist conducting research on the natural habitats of ball boys. All of his programs—from one-on-one lessons to instructional clinics to summer sessions—stress the fundamentals, including proper stroke mechanics, footwork, and mental strategizing.
Sportime's facilities boast multisport courts, full fitness centers, group exercise studios, and indoor and outdoor tennis courts to provide exercisers with an array of brow-perspiring and skill-acquiring opportunities. Work stomach muscles into a fleshy washboard in the Ab-solution class, or tone legs in time for varsity leapfrog tryouts in the Below the Belt class. BodySculpt and Ball Core help to carve physiques into chiseled masterpieces, while kickboxing, yoga, Pilates, and Zumba classes keep bodies healthy, fit, and centered. Whether you opt for one kind of workout or mix it up with several, each pulse-pounding session will help to burn calories, strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and release your inner Charles Atlas.
On the indoor or outdoor tennis courts, leagues, camps, and classes for adults and juniors help them perfect serves and backhands, while the other facilities host swimming lessons and bouts of volleyball and dodge ball.
