Settled among the meadows and river of its rural surroundings, Spagarage takes its moniker from its transformation from an automotive garage into the oasis of tranquility it is today. Born out of owner Vincent's passion for styling, the salon-spa welcomes patrons with a slew of services focused on the development of modern styles, highlighting, and colour diagnostic and repair. Before emigrating to Canada from London, England in the 1970s—otherwise known as polka's golden age—Vincent honed his hair-sculpting skills at the Vidal Sassoon Academy’s renowned Bond Street salon. Vincent continues to refresh his knowledge with supplemental classes at the Academy’s other outposts in New York, Los Angeles, and Paris. In between running the salon and raising his two young children well above his head to build strength, Vincent is also at work developing his own organic, locally produced shampoo and conditioner.
At iSilhouette, techs unholster ultrasound-spraying hand pieces to help clients shuck layers of fat, leaving behind slender frames without resorting to surgery. The sleek black devices send the waves deep into unwanted fat cells, destroying them. The body then metabolizes these broken cells, flushing them out through the lymphatic system and leaving skin firmer and smoother than a seal training for Mr. Universe. Apart from the headlining slimming treatment, the onsite spa delivers a host of other beautifying and relaxing services, such as massages and facials, as well as hairstyling services that include foil highlights, straightening, and formal updos.
Spawned from Reflections Salon & Spa on Banks Street, Reflections II brings all the hair, nail, and skin services of its predecessor to a chic bilevel space on Hazeldean Road. White orchids adorn nearly every table on the first floor, including two rows of styling stations, where hair experts cut and style coifs before simple silver-framed mirrors. A separate colouring station corrals those receiving full, partial, and accent highlights into one space, where they can gaze upon flat-screen TVs and magazines as they wait for the colour to set or new blond hairs to magically grow. Upstairs in the spa, both men and women can sink into a cushy pedicure throne, and the latter can set their feet on a pedestal for a dollop of China Glaze polish. Grey and taupe tones alternate in private rooms, creating a calm and relaxing environment for a Dermalogica facial or bikini wax.
Among stone walls bathed in the glow of blue lights, NewU Body Bar's talented aestheticians and nail technicians put their collective goal of pampering patrons into practice as they lavish signature spa treatments upon weary bodies. Throughout the day, staffers buzz about the marble-topped nail bar and private massage rooms while erasing coffee, wine, and grass stains from grins in teeth-whitening sessions. Skilled in both traditional beautification and unique services, the spa technicians administer mouthwatering treatments including ice-cream-sundae manicures and mimosa facials. To further bolster NewU’s atmosphere of serenity, a fleet of white leather couches enables guests to rest their feet and practice telepathically changing the channel on the spa’s flat-screen TVs.
Styling stations, pedicure chairs, and lounge areas pop up throughout Noir Salon & Spa's large studio amid sandstone accents and wall tones plucked from a pale dawn. The wall colors, like the products used during hair, skin, and body treatments, were chosen for their eco-friendly components as part of the salon's dedication to environmental responsibility. It is also a member of the Green Circle Salon Group, which promotes green salons and recycling. During each haircut, manicure, and foot massage, Noir specialists employ products free of toxic fillers that have never been tested on animals. As part of its commitment to environmental responsibility, the salon also conserves energy with low-energy lighting, automatic shutoff sensors, and hair clippers powered by their own appetite for stubble.
Determined to make their spa into a local escape for men and women, the team at European Flair Hair & Spa fosters a tranquil environment where skin, hair, and nail treatments join with massage therapy to soothe from the inside out. Using only salon-trusted products such as Paul Mitchell, Moroccanoil, and ammonia-free Chi Ionic Permanent Shine, stylists' access to superior tools gives them greater range and depth when styling and treating tresses. In further executing the spa's philosophy of personal gratification, registered massage therapists balm clients with massages that make muscle fibres sing as harmoniously as a barbershop quartet, instead of screeching like the lead singer in a Norwegian death-metal barbershop quartet.
