Comedians Bob Perkell and Jeff Capri met through an act of deceit. When Perkell was gearing up for one of his first productions on the other side of the curtain, Capri called him to get a booking for one of the comedians he said he managed: Jeff Capri. But the charade didn't last long: the show was a success, Capri revealed his real identity, and, eventually, the two channeled their teamwork into a comedy club of their own. During Surf City’s shows, guests can order from a list of sweet, wine-centric cocktails and two dozen beers, including taps of Fat Tire and Shock Top.
On Saturday, December 22, from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Dos Lagos Food Truck Festival will take over the parking lot at the Shops at Dos Lagos with strains of live music and the savory scents of freshly prepared food. More than 20 food trucks are expected, ranging from sausage-centric The Viking Truck to Suite 106 Cupcakery. Visitors can also nibble free samples or sip cold brews in a beer garden.
Named in homage to Riverside, California's turn-of-the-century citrus packinghouses, this microbrewery handcrafts four year-round beers. The easy-drinking Sunburst Blonde pairs perfectly with a summer day, and the malty Black Beauty Cream Stout brims with scent of roasted barley. The Heritage Pale Ale and the Riley's Red Ale round out the year-round offerings. Besides the core four, the brewery creates an ever-expanding series of IPAs, as well as several specialty and seasonal libations. Inside Packinghouse's tasting room, bartenders pour pints of each day's available brews, which are also available to take home by the bottle and growler.
Across the 20 lanes at Universal Strike Bowling Center, the rolling thrum of bowling balls prefaces the clattering of pins. As guests hunt strikes and spares, automated scoring tallies each felled pin, and pours of beer and platters of pizza from the sports bar sate competitors' appetites.
Away from the lanes, Universal Strike Bowling Center houses other venues for friendly competition, including a large arcade, and pool tables. In three banquet halls that can host up to 500 guests, the sprawling facility puts on wedding receptions, corporate gatherings, quinceañeras, and other festive events.
The award-winning cuisine at D'Canters' features contemporary American dishes with a focus on steaks and seafood. Sunday champagne brunches, host lemon-blueberry pancakes, and dinnertime starters include jalapeño hush puppies. Entrees run the gamut from wild game specials, natural angus prime steaks and include dishes such as shiitake crusted chicken and prime rib or the signature jalapeño lime salmon. On weekends can guests can revel in fresh oyster and duck menu selections. A full service bar and more than 40 wines by the glass can complement each feast, which unfold amidst the soothing tones of live music every Friday and Saturday.
