Music instructor Ellane draws on a bachelor's degree in music education and an North Carolina teacher's license in music K–12 to familiarize children with the world of music. In her Kindermusik classes, she works with newborns, infants, and toddlers as well as children as old as 7, using age-appropriate exercises to engage and interest them. Cuddle and Bounce classes help to strengthen bonds between parents and babies, while classes for first-graders focus on teaching kids to read and compose music on the dulcimer. Although Ellane's Kindermusik classes are geared toward children, she has experience teaching students of all ages.
The artists at Wine and Canvas awaken their students’ inner Rembrandts and van Goghs with classes that pair a featured painting with specialty cocktails and wines. The mobile studio’s monthly calendar includes themed classes in which instructors expound on the nuances of painting Parisian street lamps, Japanese flowers, or Venetian cityscapes. The master painters—many of them local artists—provide step-by-step instructions, and students mimic each stroke and periodically dip their brushes into glasses filled with crimson cabernet. Each of the studio’s various drink-friendly venues boasts a specialty libation selected to incite creativity or conversations with fellow painters. When the artistic frenzy concludes, students return home with a finished masterpiece large enough to conceal any wall safe or mirror portal.
A member track of the American Speed Association (ASA), Ace Speedway has been entertaining admirers of amped-up autos since 1956. Updated and expanded as the racing sport sprouted, Ace Speedway now boasts a 4/10-mile oval track with 12-degree banking. Guests can wash away the work week with a sensory shower of speeding sights and rumbling sounds at the Friday–night racing series. Those who show up early will catch warm-ups and qualifying heats before taking in divisions such as Late Model, Grand American Modifieds, Mini Stock, and Souped-up Soccer Mom Vans. Flathead Fords, Southern Ground Pounders, and other exhibition classes sanctioned by ASA visit the track throughout the season, and a number of touring divisions, such as PASS All Stars, compete at Ace Speedway on occasion. To stop taste buds from complaining about missing the action, visitors can savor a hot dog with a 20-ounce drink.

Like the art of Tae Kwan Do, seventh-degree black belt Grand Master Sang Ho Lee hails from Korea. He's one of the six martial arts Grand Masters and Masters who teach at Lee Brothers Academy?and, as the studio's name suggests, the other five are Lees, too. After watching a bout of their kicks, jabs, and brick-breaking, you'll suspect that a feisty streak runs in the family.
That steak is well counterbalanced by a peaceful side, however. The Lees complement their Tae Kwon Do lessons with lessons in Hap Ki Do, a "soft" martial art in which the practitioner avoids force altogether. Instead, he or she defuses attacks as nonviolently as possible, using joint locks and pressure points to turn the attacker's strength against him. This method is ideal for small fighters taking on bigger opponents, or whale-wrestlers in training.

Zumba, cycling, and Pilates group exercise classes shake up adult workout routines, as childcare frees up parents to pursue fitness goals. Meanwhile, adult sport leagues result in friendly competition and hyperliterate team names inspired by obscure philosophers.
