For CrossFit Medina?s owner and coach Jim Cartwright, CrossFit is about more than a successful workout that doesn?t get boring?it?s also about the community. When FOX8 visited CrossFit Medina, they stumbled into an electric atmosphere that showed groups of athletes working together to accomplish their goals, much like a group of ants would work together to bench-press a tomato.
CrossFit students submit themselves to the Workout of the Day (WOD), a constantly changing workout that can be as short as 2 minutes or as long as 35 minutes. The programs blend principles of fitness disciplines such as strength training, cardio training, and gymnastics, forming routines that are anything but routine. Though the moves vary, students might be expected to row on the rowing machine, perform Olympic-style weight lifts, and execute conditioning exercises such as box jumps, pull-ups, and dips among others. All the while, CrossFit Medina?s trainers encircle the class, lending tips and giving individual attention to students when necessary.
The trainers at Root 18 CrossFit, formerly known as Cross 18, are dedicated to body transformation and meeting the goals of their clients through cross training, nutritional counseling, and stress-management clinics. They help those struggling with weight loss, as well as those working to stay in shape or achieve higher fitness levels, through daily workouts that incorporate everything from planks and rope-climbing to the use of resistance bands and gymnastics rings. By changing up the routines each time, they help stave off boredom while maintaining focus on achieving goals. The team also has classes designed to ease in newcomers, as well as classes for teens.

Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
CrossFit incorporates movements found in everyday life at high intensity. That intensity is relative to each participant. Our workouts change daily, so you will never get bored with one routine. This is fitness for everybody.
Do you believe in the maxim, "No pain, no gain?? Why or why not?
To an extent. You should be working out at a level that is outside your comfort zone to see maximum results. However, we never want you to push so hard that you are in actual physical pain during or after exercise.
Do you run your gym according to a particular exercise philosophy?
Yes, we provide fitness regimens that help participants of every age, fitness level, and body type achieve success. We believe in creating a memorable, positive, and fun experience by being an intimidation-free gym.
Running, gymnastics, and weight lifting find common ground at CrossFit Strongville, where instructors lead high-intensity functional CrossFit workouts. Though routines always change, they typically incorporate a slew of moves, such as pull-ups, lifts, and squats—moves that can be scaled to challenge exercisers of all levels. And these moves are performed at a high intensity for a reason: CrossFit Strongville's trainers want to whip their clients into shape as fast as possible, not only so that they are healthy, but also so they feel confident in their bodies.
Clare Gales has two loves—dance and fitness. The devoted dancer and expert trainer opened Studio 82 in 1986, where she combined her two passions by hosting both fitness and dance classes on the studio's expansive hardwood floors. Today, Clare and her staff of professional dancers and fitness professionals continue to lead students of all ages in more than 100 different classes that range from ballet to cardio kickboxing.
An abundance of internationally renowned dancers and top instructors have passed through the studio's doors over the course of its 26 years, guiding youngsters and adults alike through the footwork and form of styles such as ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. Certified fitness instructors conduct a variety of energetic classes, interspersing a schedule of high-intensity cardio classes with strength-training workouts and rejuvenating yoga and Pilates sessions. The studio's diverse range of classes attracts an equally diverse group of clients that includes aspiring dancers, fitness seekers, and future brides preparing for the wedding dance or bulking up for the ceremonial arm-wrestling match against the groom’s mother.
