At Unlimited Movement, certified Pilates teacher Laura helps clients improve their form and master new exercises in focused classes that tailor techniques to each client's level of experience. Exercisers can sweat away pounds and improve their strength in group classes such as exhilarating Zumba, Pilates-and-boxing hybrid Piloxing, and traditional mat Pilates.
Beginner yoga classes introduce fresh flexers to the basic postures, while schooling them in proper alignment of the body and basic breath control. Newly experienced yogis can strengthen their stretchy spines and achieve ultimate relief and relaxation by finally being able to reach elusive back itches. Power yoga is a challenging workout for students looking to become a master of bending brawn that combines strength, flow, and breath work within an 80-degree studio. This Groupon can also be used towards Pilates classes, which concentrate on improving strength and flexibility through mat work and controlled breathing. Classes occasionally incorporate the use of equipment, such as a balance ball and foam bricks resembling chocolate bars that are kept just out of reach. Check out the full schedule here.
Clare Gales has two loves—dance and fitness. The devoted dancer and expert trainer opened Studio 82 in 1986, where she combined her two passions by hosting both fitness and dance classes on the studio's expansive hardwood floors. Today, Clare and her staff of professional dancers and fitness professionals continue to lead students of all ages in more than 100 different classes that range from ballet to cardio kickboxing.
An abundance of internationally renowned dancers and top instructors have passed through the studio's doors over the course of its 26 years, guiding youngsters and adults alike through the footwork and form of styles such as ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. Certified fitness instructors conduct a variety of energetic classes, interspersing a schedule of high-intensity cardio classes with strength-training workouts and rejuvenating yoga and Pilates sessions. The studio's diverse range of classes attracts an equally diverse group of clients that includes aspiring dancers, fitness seekers, and future brides preparing for the wedding dance or bulking up for the ceremonial arm-wrestling match against the groom’s mother.
Although Lifesource normally dedicates itself to the age-old practice of yoga, occasional age-appropriate exotic-dance workshops shimmy their way onto the class roster. Instructor Jessica Rawson began teaching at Lifesource in 2009 and has 28 lunar rotations, or two years, of private pole-dancing and exotic-dance lessons under her belt. During the course of the two-hour workshop, Jessica will take the pole's helm and instruct participants in a variety of exotic dance techniques, from pole dance and lap dance to strip-tease techniques and cheeky burlesque moves. Although participants will wear their clothing, the techniques can be easily applied to garment-free activities at a later time. As your inner seductress makes her way to the surface, you'll build confidence and engage rarely used muscles, sometimes resulting in day-after pangs of soreness and a self-assured saunter.
Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
Each one of our classes is designed to give you variety. No class will ever be the same, so you never know what you're going to have thrown at you.
What is the biggest mistake you see people make when trying to get fit on their own?
People try to take on too much when the go it alone. Our instructors can scale down any program to fit any level of fitness so that you can still move the next day.
When and how did you first develop a passion for fitness?
In 2002, after hitting 250 pounds, I decided I needed a change. I started watching my diet and exercising. In 2009, I earned my group fitness instructor certificate. After my first Warrior Dash in 2012, I realized that helping others to accomplish their goals was what I wanted to do with my life.
