Fluc stands for Food Lovers United Company, which is fitting considering the breadth of options the food-delivery specialists offer. But Fluc isn't an ordinary delivery service: it lets diners choose from hundreds of restaurants and ensures wait-times of no more than 45 minutes, plus, there are no minimums on orders. Additional features include group-ordering, letting multiple people add and subtract from orders on different devices, and advanced ordering for up to one year from now. There's no need for dollar bills or IOU's either?transactions are conducted completely online from start to finish.
First conceived nearly 50 years ago, the dream of the Oshman Family JCC officially came to fruition in 2009 as a sprawling, 8.5-acre campus that welcomes people of all backgrounds. The Richard & Rhoda Goldman Sports & Wellness Complex hosts more than 150 group fitness classes per week, complementing these sessions with basketball and volleyball games. A heated outdoor pool supplies six lanes for swimming laps and connects with a sun deck that's ideal for relaxing with a good book or identifying barbell-shaped cloud formations. But the center focuses on enriching people's lives through other means as well. It supports families via kid-friendly camps, activities, and early-childhood education programs. It also hosts cultural events in the Schultz Cultural Arts Hall, spotlighting the works of renowned artists, musicians, and authors.
ShortKitchen’s name hints at its mission: to help users get in and out of the kitchen in as little time as possible. Staff members base each of their health-focused recipes on the prepared, semiprepared, and raw foods found at a standard Trader Joe’s grocery store, rather than forcing customers to spend weeks tracking and hunting their own kale. After customers submit an online questionnaire outlining their fitness goals and dietary preferences, ShortKitchen’s nutrition pros get to work choosing the Trader Joe's products that best fit the client's personal tastes. They design custom restaurant and takeout dining plans, or craft plans with 9–12 weekly recipes and grocery-shopping lists—each of which is tailored to diets such as gluten-free, weight-loss, and paleo.
Rather than basing plans on calorie counts, staffers balance their recipes with a healthy ratio of carbohydrates to fats to proteins. They also scale each Trader Joe's grocery list to include only the ingredients needed for each meal, ensuring customers don’t have to throw out leftovers at the end of the week or stage a hostile takeover of their neighbor’s pantry.

Besides making clients happy, what do you like most about your job?
Just being able to spend most of my day outside of the office is very rewarding. I, along with my team, regularly visit local farms (San Juan Bautista, Hollister, Watsonville, Turlock, etc.) to see what the best-tasting produce is and just to interact with the farmers (whom we would never normally interact with, as "city folk").
When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
Dimitri has been involved with farming ever since he was little kid. His family owned a farm and went to numerous farmers' markets. However, tired of the crowds, [he] decided to look into other ways of distributing his fresh produce, but all of the services left much to be desired (they were either too expensive or didn't offer customization). In the winter of 2014, Furrowed Fields was born, with the mission of providing the freshest sustainably grown produce to its customers, while supporting the local community.
What aspect of your job, or the services you offer, most often surprises people?
There are two aspects: One is that customers can completely customize their [selection] for Build Your Own Boxes (per seasonal availability). The second is that we actually give a lot back to the community. For any customer that mentions a school or other non-profit cause, we donate 10% of all sales on an ongoing basis to that school (for approved schools/non-profits). If the community is happy, then we're happy.
Since 1999, the staffers of Gourmet RockStars have been helping to throw lavish, unique events of every ilk. From equipment rentals and catering to entire-event management for weddings, birthday parties, and corporate events, the company’s party planners pay careful attention to their clients’ every request. Clients can spruce up seated banquets with extras such as ice sculptures, champagne fountains, and shot-glass displays. The staff maintains strict client confidentiality, whether they’re organizing a product launch or throwing an awards dinner for a group of secret agents.
