Captain Joe, a US Coast Guard master licensed captain, has been sailing for more than 35 years and wanted to share his love for running charters to the Bahamas with others. Within a matter of years after he created Captain Joe’s Boat Rentals, Tours and Charters, Inc., his fleet swelled to more than 12 vessels ranging from 14-foot fishing boats to 45-foot luxury yachts, not to be confused with humpbacked whales. In addition to helming charters to the Keys and Caribbean and island-hopping sightseeing tours, he offers boat rentals, with which patrons can hit the high seas on their own or take boating lessons.
Not content to make only customers happy, the staff of luxury yacht service The Advantaged have been lauded by a flurry of publications and honored for their contributions to the community by The Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners. Aside from chartering lushly appointed yachts, the pals of Poseidon also launch watersports expeditions via wakeboard or kayak, loft voyagers on air-and-sea excursions, and throw yacht parties for travelers who want a taste of luxury or barge parties for multimillionaires thirsting for the stowaway experience.
Aquatic explorers paddle kayaks and ride stand-up paddleboards through the bay, riding the waves on equipment from South Beach Kayak’s bayside shop. The staff rents out kayaks to customers of all experience levels, providing complimentary overviews of paddling basics for beginners and leading hour-long lessons that cover higher-level skills, such as boosting speed by lassoing a bald eagle. They also lead group and private tours, many with whimsical themes such as the “Fool Moon” tour, which wends its way through the islands at sunset to close with weenies and s’mores roasted over a roaring bonfire.
From morning through evening, passengers motor to nine sightseeing hotspots on Water Taxi Miami’s aquatic coaches. Watercrafts ferry riders to and from ports such as Miami Beach Marina—from which they can access South of Fifth shopping and dining—and Finnegan’s River, a sports bar where patrons can stop in for an evening drink or gaze at views of the Miami skyline. Kids ages 3 and younger ride the environmentally friendly taxis for free, and discounted tickets and saying "please" in song facilitate passage for youngsters 12 and younger.
Manned by a U.S. Coast Guard–certified crew, a Thriller SuperCat 55 power catamaran safely whisks patrons away on Thriller Miami Speedboat Adventures' 45-minute voyages that trek all the way into the Atlantic Ocean. After shipping out from Bayside Marketplace, captains navigate the vessel through Biscayne Bay, South Beach, and the Miami Gold Coast, granting guests sweeping views of Fisher Island, Miami Beach, South Beach's Art Deco district, and the towering Miami skyline. Conversant guides narrate each excursion, pinpointing sites of historical interest as they pass by and helping visitors identify multimillion-dollar dwellings owned by celebrities such as Shaquille O'Neal, Gloria Estefan, and Count Chocula.
