It's impossible to explore all of Miami's cultural, culinary, and entertainment hot spots in one day?unless you're attending Palette Miami. The annual shindig corrals a wide swathe of Miami's tastes, sounds, and sights onto the sprawling green spaces of Biscayne Boulevard. There, visitors can sample cuisines from restaurants including Lime Fresh Mexican Grill, Pride and Joy Bar B Que, and Mina's Mediterraneo, then pair them with a beer and saki tasting.
In between bites, participants can peruse goods from local vendors and take in some live entertainment. U2 tribute band U2 by UV adopts the cool swagger of the Irish rockers on hits such as "Even Better Than The Real Thing" and "With or Without You," while Elvis impersonator Pelvis mashes classic Elvis songs with classic rock tunes to create a musical fusion not found since rap-polka.
CrossFit 305 traces its lineage back to a modest, 300-square-foot studio that opened in 2008. Shortly after the staff began reading about CrossFit and testing out the workouts themselves, they decided to dedicate their business entirely to the functional fitness program. Even as they restructured their workouts, their studio continued to grow. Today, they hold their group classes in a 3,500-square foot facility equipped with gymnastics rings, kettlebells, and barbells for Olympic lifting.
Co-owner Dominic Sirianni says that many clients are hesitant to begin training at CrossFit 305, due to CrossFit’s reputation as a brutal, challenging workout. He assures them that they shouldn't be worried. "We scale the workout's intensity to their ability," he explains. "We have people as young as 10 years old and old as 77." In fact, it’s this inclusive atmosphere that keeps members coming back for more.
When they aren’t pushing clients to run faster or throw their boulders further, CrossFit 305's certified trainers encourage them to stay mindful of nutrition. They have even partnered with the Florida Heart Research Institute to help them give accurate body-composition readings and determine ideal body-fat percentages.
CrossFit is “constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movement” that uses fitness techniques such as squatting, lifting, and running in combination with kettlebells, medicine balls, and cardio to rapidly tone up muscles. The skilled CrossFit trainers encourage small-group classes to constantly push their limits in each high-intensity, 45-minute class.
The inspiring trainers at each MetaBody location lead troops of workouteers in results-oriented workouts several times weekly. Sweat sessions utilize a variety of exercises and disciplines to produce full-body results in a supportive environment, ideal for beginners and hard-core core-hardeners alike. During any class, motivational instructors will use the instinctual distrust of routine to their advantage. Begin a day of litigating with a refreshing early-morning boot-camp session, or wind down by burning evidence and pounds with a late-evening yoga class. Muscles are kept guessing with new and challenging moves during each session, so participants never fall into a boring, ineffective routine, such as regular teeth brushing. In addition to the fitness classes, students receive a success guide to help prepare for imminent pound loss, a nutrition guide, and a $100 gift certificate for individual coaching. Because the pass sets a 5 or 10-class cap at any given location, roving fitness mavens can further shake up their workout regimens by vetting a series of classes or instructors that work best for them.
Bikram Yoga Central Miami focuses exclusively on Bikram yoga, which uses 105-degree heat to warm muscles and ligaments while instructors lead students of all experience levels through 26 postures designed to stretch and strengthen bodies and nurture a rewarding inner life. Guests can refuel with smoothies at the organic juice bar or reward tired physiques with the steam room's restorative heat. In the massage room, therapist Julia Mayer kneads with practiced hands, helping unlock healing with her knack for listening to each body's needs and rants about the cheap shower gel in most hotels.
Born into a showbiz family, it was only natural that Conni Gordon of Conni Gordon Arts Foundation, Inc. would wind up on TV. She debuted her original act, entitled Draw Your Own Conclusions, in front of 50,000 US Marines during World War II, prompting her to bring her talents to a larger audience via programs on TV networks such as PBS, NBC, ABC, and CBS. Her unique four-step system, which she has demonstrated on The Tonight Show, allows students to create their own original works of art in one hour without relying on presketched material.
