What are some of your most popular services? What do you think clients love them so much?
Clients love our deep-tissue massage because we go deeper than most therapists, we include stretching, and we guide you, in a tranquil voice, to take long deep breaths and use the incredible power of your mind to relax your body. In this way, the session is like a guided-meditation [session] in which you become a more active participant in your own therapy. Some clients who have suffered for years with chronic pain are amazed by the relief they get from neuromuscular realignment, which analyzes your musculoskeletal imbalances and stretches the core muscles that are pulling your body out of alignment.
What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?
We are literally a mom-and-pop operation. [Roxanne and I have been] married for 17 years and are both licensed massage therapists. Roxanne is also a licensed skincare specialist, and [I am] also a chi gong instructor.
How did you get started in the beauty industry? Did you have an "ah-ha" moment in life?
It started back in 2006, when [I] got laid off from [my] cubicle job and decided to get into a manual-labor career. Having always had a natural talent for massage, [I] returned to school and became licensed, initially in Dallas, Texas. Roxanne, after years of lessons from [me], also went to massage school and became licensed in 2008. [We] moved to Miami and got Florida licenses in 2011.
As an 11-year-old girl, Doctor of Chiropractic Wendy Gallego was diagnosed with scoliosis. The painful curvature in her spine immediately began to interfere with her life, forcing her to drop out of gymnastics and wear a back brace. After years of chronic discomfort, a college friend suggested that she visit a chiropractor, and she finally began to find relief from her symptoms. More importantly, she was inspired by her chiropractor's whole-body approach to wellness, which emphasized nutrition and lifestyle as well as treatment. This drove her to become a chiropractor herself while formulating the philosophy that "people should not be perceived as separately functioning parts, but rather as a complex structure of interdependent systems." By founding Shin Wellness, she sought to create a holistic health care center that addressed physical as well as mental health.
Embracing Western and Eastern treatment modalities, Dr. Gallego looks for instructors and therapists with more than technical proficiency and a photographic recollection of the periodic table. She claims that "there's a quality that comes with being a healer," and she looks for that passion in all her prospective employees, whether they will be performing massages, conducting hypnotherapy sessions, or leading Pilates classes.
At the modern and environmentally friendly Petit Spa, highly trained aestheticians and med-spa experts work to improve dry, oily, and acne-prone skin during chemical peels, microdermabrasion treatments, and specialty facials. They use the hypoallergenic Babor skincare line from Germany and the botanical-laden Aquaroma line when tending to mugs, and they use an organic spray-tan solution with green-tea extract and anti-oxidants to bronze limbs.
To further rejuvenate bodies, they rely on toxin-flushing hydrotherapy treatments and tension-melting massages in Swedish, aromatherapy, or deep-tissue modalities. They even have a localized deep-tissue massage, which concentrates exclusively on the neck, back, and shoulders, leaving clients as stress-free as Christmas shopping in April.
Time gives us many things: wisdom, experience, more overdue library notices to burn for warmth. Unfortunately, it also give us wrinkles and cellulite. The team at Verbelle tackles the unwanted effects of age with two advanced treatments: Thermage for the face and VelaShape for the body. Thermage uses radiofrequency to lift, tighten, and generally tone the complexion. The VelaShape machine, meanwhile, stimulates circulation and shrinks fat cells with radiofrequency waves, infrared light, vacuum suction, and massaging rollers.
