The Florida Renaissance Festival is a wholly different world??a world of jousts and costumes and turkey legs. Here be dragons, or so the armor-clad knights would have you believe. At the festival, live shows recreate the romance of the Renaissance with references to Shakespeare and swordplay on 12 different stages. Meanwhile, merchants share the secrets of their crafts, blowing unbreakable glass for spectators and selling hammered pewter goblets. Visitors, dressed in period garb or not, can wander on their own, exploring the shows and stalls, or trying their hands at games of chance while gnawing on scotch eggs and chocolate cheesecake.
The Taste of Brickell Food and Wine Festival serves culinary samples from nine popular Brickell restaurants, endless fine wine and spirits, and international rhythms. Chefs from such area eateries as Porcao Farm to Grill, El Vato, Tapas Xperience, and Batch Gastro Pub distribute freshly prepared portions of signature menu items, including morsels from 2014 Executive Chef Virgile Brandel (Atrio at the Conrad). Wine experts entice visitors to try new vintages by hosting tasting demos and dispensing samples. A portion of all event proceeds help fund the local charities.
Although he earned his fortunes as a businessman, Charles Deering's true passion was for art and culture. He filled his home with sculptures, drawings, paintings, and other works?some of which he created himself. After he passed away in 1927, The Deering Estate at Cutler has kept his spirit alive; his former home and its surrounding natural landscapes now operate as a cultural meeting place for the community?one that hosts art festivals, artist lectures, and The Living Artist Concert Series.
At the Miami Fine Chocolate & Food Show, vendors and chocolate lovers alike descend upon South Florida during a celebration of life's sweeter side. An estimated 3,000 foodies visit the evening event, witnessing and tasting the creations of some of the region's and the world's most distinguished chefs.
Themed areas make navigating the event a cinch. In designated chocolate zones, gourmet retailers, bakers, and pastry chefs win the hearts of taste buds with their sweets, which range from handmade goods to organic and small-batch treats. For a more savory experience, Restaurant Row showcases the eats of more than 30 South Florida restaurants. Pairing seminars, meanwhile, discuss what edibles go well together, and live cooking demonstrations share tricks of the trade, such as how to turn a chef's hat into an oversized drinking goblet. There will also be a number of beer, wine, and spirits vendors on hand and attendees can enjoy music performances throughout the space.
Nestled within the food show, the Cigar Cellar & Lounge sponsors the Miami Smoke Affair. Cigar connoisseurs stroll the booths of 20 brands, learning from the factory reps about how the cigars are made, what they're made from, and how they should be smoked. As they meander through the space, they sip on unlimited glasses of craft beer and nibble on bites of food. They can also dig into cigar-packed goody bags in the tented smoking lounge.
It used to be that while the northern regions of the country enjoyed hayrides through patches of plump, orange gourds, south Floridians had to be content with only their gorgeous, tropical weather, but that all changed in 2012. At the 3rd annual Coconut Grove Pumpkin Patch Festival, 5,000 pumpkins will assemble just off the coast of Biscayne Bay for Peacock Park?s pumpkin patch. But the pumpkins are just the centerpiece of a weekend-long celebration filled with classic autumn traditions. ?We deserve to have that magical fall feeling too,? says organizer Vanessa Goodis, working to bring autumnal splendor to the Miami waterfront.
Along with pumpkins harvested for their slow-flickering internal flames, the fest also entertains guests with a diverse set of attractions. Kids navigate straw-strewn tunnels in the giant hay maze and tread eerie, eary paths in the corn-stalk labyrinth. The dress-your-own scarecrow village stocks the latest field-hand fashion wear, and the orange orbs that star in the festival can be decorated with paint, glitter, glue, and googly eyes for an additional fee. The Coconut Grove Pumpkin Patch Festival lets Florida children enjoy everything fall has to offer.

The food, drink, and music event, which is part of the Food and Wine Week, takes over four floors of The Moore Building in the heart of the Design District. Here, ticket-holders drift from floor to floor and table to table sampling signature dishes including barbecue, tacos, and sushi from local restaurants such as Pride and Joy, Red: The Steakhouse, Meat Market, City Hall: The Restaurant, and Nikki Beach. They can pair bites with libations courtesy of Jack Daniels Honey, Chambord Vodka, and Hierbas Ibicencas, and end their meals with cake, cookies, chocolate cake, and other delicacies from the dessert lounge.
As evidenced by the name of the event, the culinary experience will be enhanced with live beats curated by DJ Irie, the official DJ of the Miami Heat.
