After a trip to Mexico, brothers Jonathan and Yair Marcoshaner were inspired to create a company that makes fashionable furnishings and accessories from recycled candy wrappers, food packages, soda labels, subway maps, newspapers and movie posters. The store Ecoist is the result of their hard, eclectic work. Located in Wynwood, the city’s art district, the brothers have been successful in collecting waste and turning it into eye-catching and stylish handbags, jewelry, belts, wallets and housewares. Since the development of their idea, the brothers believe that they have saved over 40 million wrappers from ending up in landfills, thanks to their supremely eco-chic designs.

The award-winning acting coach and filmmaker Ralph Kinnard still offers classes for beginners and professionals at Miami Acting Studio. His acting workshops are based on the techniques of Lee Strassberg (he of Actor’s Studio fame), the father of modern acting. Each once-a-week session works to teach actors the basics and beyond, by building on their natural instincts, emotions and abilities, before taking risks on stage. The class work includes improvisation and scene development to help actors build their craft, and many of the Studio’s graduates find work have had success in television and movies. Best of all: the first class is always free.

About the Chef Chef Jimmy Carey, the man responsible for all three Jimmy'z Kitchen locations, has worked in five-star hotels and celebrity-owned hot spots. But his own restaurants are the epitome of casual. Diners order from a counter before asking for a to-go bag or grabbing a table for dinner. Don't let the laidback atmosphere fool you, though. Chef Jimmy's food deserves to be taken seriously. Here's how critics have praised his menu. The bolitas de queso "were so delectable I resented having to share them," Lee Klein wrote in the Miami New Times in April 2011. "This is the kind of place you can hardly wait to recommend to your friends." The same publication also said the restaurant had the best mofongo in Miami in 2009. Speaking of superlatives, Zagat chose Jimmy'z Kitchen as the region's Best Sandwich Restaurant in 2012. Forbes is a fan of the mofongo too, calling it "the real deal?a rich mash of plantains, spices, and a sauce as good as anything I?ve had outside my abuela?s kitchen."

Dedicated to helping artists get music out to future fans, Coast 2 Coast creates and distributes some of the country's most listened-to mixtapes. In addition to working with such hip-hop luminaries as 50 Cent, Nas, and Flo Rida, the organization helps up-and-coming artists spread their rhymes by creating digital downloads and frisbeeing CDs directly into the players of passing cars. An annual convention further opens doors for superstars, with industry panels, parties, and a concert of some of Coast 2 Coast's top artists from the past year.
