At Urban Massage, licensed massage therapists treat specific symptoms with the strokes, movements, and varied pressure associated with specialized massage techniques. A gentle Swedish relaxation massage unravels pent-up stress and boosts circulation, and a sports or medical massage focuses on specific problem areas to treat musculoskeletal conditions or injuries brought on by picking fights with redwood trees. For an extra fee, clients may upgrade to a deep-tissue kneading to target chronic tension, or add on an aroma-touch technique to work away stress in the soothing redolence of eight essential oils. The dedicated therapists at Urban Massage celebrate city living with their downtown location, featuring a wide-open gallery space decorated with the work of local artists.
In addition to the energy-balancing benefits of Japanese reiki treatments, massage therapists also evict bodily stress with Russian-style platza sessions. After reclining on a bench in the steamy comfort of the onsite sauna, clients submit skin to the gentle swirls of oak leaves infused with hot water and olive oil soap. The combination of heat and bodywork nourishes skin, exfoliating away grime and temporary tattoos that keep mysteriously reappearing. In private treatment rooms, therapists also practice traditional Western massage modalities, kneading muscles during Swedish and deep-tissue sessions illuminated by flickering candlelight.
In 1993, Jay and Tracey Bocci began their quest to develop a world-class salon. Through skill, an eye on industry trends, and a focus on their customers, Bocci Salon quickly grew. By 1999, it had become one of the top 200 fastest growing salons in the United States. It is now recognized as one of the top salons in Michigan
Throughout her training and more than 13 years of professional experience, certified massage therapist and Lighthouse Massage Center founder Elizabeth Everett has learned to treat patients with more than just her hands. She performs 11 types of massage, including Ashiatsu oriental bar therapy, during which she uses her feet to deeply manipulate muscles in the back, glutes, and legs. Her hands work in tandem with warmed stones during hot lava-stone treatments as wafts of smoke from white sage fill the air with a calming scent. Raindrop-therapy sessions use the aromatic blends of Young Living Essential Oils and ancient Lakota techniques to target both physical and energetic toxins acquired from carrying whiny backpacks. Elizabeth, who has used her capable hands to soothe the stage-weary muscles of musicians such as Alice Cooper and Alicia Keys, is also a certified yoga instructor, and leads Vinyasa classes at Hilltop Yoga.
Angela Gorman has amassed a formidable list of certifications in the holistic-health industry after 14 years. She has been trained to soothe physiques with 28 different bodywork modalities, aided by her experience as a personal trainer and an anatomy and physiology instructor at Florida Metropolitan University, now known as Everest University. With such a broad wellness background, Angela was in prime position to develop Sacred Body's credo of customer care, which focuses a menu of treatments on restoring each individual's mental and physical balance.
Angela's team of massage therapists, yoga instructors, and life coaches subdue stressors by customizing their services to accommodate every client. The massage menu splits its offerings into corporal treatments—such as deep-tissue work—and energy therapy, such as reiki or kneadings with hot batteries. Faith in organic health has inspired the center's signature facial, which combines honey and fruits with herbal infusions brewed onsite to bring out the skin's radiance.
